In a letter sent by Johhny Chung to Richard Sullivan, Chung requests help to arrange: (1) a meeting with President Clinton, (2) a meeting with Vice President Gore, (3) lunch at the White House mess, (4) a tour of the White House, and (5) a meeting with Commerce Secretary Ron Brown. Chung sent an identical letter to Eric Sildon at the DNC, and faxed a letter to Ann McCoy of the White House Visitor's Office requesting her assistance in arranging a White House tour. He also asked Mark Middleton for help in setting up meetings with President Clinton and Vice President Gore, and in arranging a luncheon at the White House Mess.

This historic meeting brought together scientists, weapons experts, military officers, historians, environmentalists, and others to begin a comprehensive review of the Department of Energy's classification policy. The unprecedented challenge: to review all information classified by the Department. The clear charge: to hear all voices and to seek input from within the Department, its contractors, the national laboratories, and most importantly, from the American public. The Fundamental Classification Policy Review marked the first time that a Government agency has actively sought public input on a fundamental review of its classification policy….More than 25 working group meetings were held. While most meetings were classified, arrangements were made to permit uncleared individuals to address the working groups on specific issues.

Just several weeks after Mark Middleton left his White House job in February 1995, Trie, Mark Middleton and his brother Larry Middleton traveled to Asia. In a three week period, Trie and Middleton visited China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Jakarta, and Brunei. While in Hong Kong, Middleton visited Consolidated Trust Company, and told Ng Lap Seng's friend and partner, William Peh and other CTC employees of his close relationship with the President and the fact that he had just left the White House to begin his own company. Middleton had not quite severed all of his White House ties because as late as October 1996, more than 18 months after he left the White House, he still had a White House telephone number and he was passing out his White House business cards in Asia. In addition, a message on the White House voice mail system was left saying: "[t]hank you for calling the White House. To reach Mack McLarty, please dial (202) 456-2000. To reach Mark Middleton, please dial (202) 737-9305. . . . Again, thank you for calling the White House." The number left by Middleton was the number for his company, Commerce Corp. International.

“Western secret services knew as far back as 1995 that suspected terror mastermind Osama bin Laden planned to attack civilian sites using commercial passenger planes.” Quoting sources “close to western intelligence agencies,” the newspaper reported that: “The plan was discovered in January 1995 by Philippine police who were investigating a possible attack against Pope John Paul II on a visit to Manila…

“Federal investigative sources have confirmed that Murad”—who was “a close confidant and right-hand man to Yousef, who was convicted of crimes relating to the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center”—“detailed an entire plot to dive bomb aircraft in the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency in Langley, VA.” along with other U.S. buildings. “Yousef independently boasted of the plot to U.S. Secret Service agent Brian Parr and FBI agent Charles Stern on an extradition flight from Pakistan to the United States in February 1995,” continues the PEC report. “The agents later testified to that fact in court… [T]he plan targeted not only the CIA but other U.S. government buildings in Washington, including the Pentagon.”

On [Monday] Feb. 27, 1995, the task force had issued its first confidential warning to federal agencies that Islamic terrorists "may soon strike Washington D.C., specifically the Capitol and the White House." This confidential alert, which he said was quietly distributed to federal intelligence agencies and law enforcement, claimed the attacks were to begin after March 21, 1995.

"Striking inside the U.S. is presently a high priority for Iran," stated the warning. The alert also stated that upcoming terrorist strikes might be directed against "airports, airlines and telephone systems." In light of Sept. 11, it was a telling note.

On [Friday] March 3, 1995, the task force issued an update. This "super-sensitive" alert stated there was a "greater likelihood the terrorists would strike at the heart of the U.S." Bodansky also told Davis that after the truck bombing, he reviewed intelligence data that confirmed, "Oklahoma City was on the list of potential targets."

It turns out Gorelick's undated "wall memo" was negligently signed off the very next day -- Mar 4, 1995 -- according to Janet Reno's letter.

This shows there was likely a reason other than terrorism prompting her to raise the wall. She would have put an immediate hold on the memo for national security reasons if there were nothing else pushing her to implement the memo. She also would have listened to Mary Jo White's pleas if terrorism were her concern. Some other issue related to the use of foreign intel against domestic individuals appears to have set her hair on fire.

Just FYI, the aircraft as guided missile concept has been around for a long time- a friend of mine, who is a Title II manufacturer ( full-auto weapons, suppressors, that sort of stuff ) co-authored a paper in the early 1980's that asked "why would terrorists bother making bombs when they have all these nice, fuel-laden airliners just sitting on aprons?"
