Wagner tops list of music not to play while driving(Ride of the Valkyries)

London-AP -- Head-banging heavy metal music may be o-k to listen to while driving -- but stay away from some of the older classical stuff.

Britain's R-A-C Foundation has named Richard Wagner's (VAHG'-nurz) fast-paced "Ride of the Valkyries" (VAL'-keer-eez) as the top tune not to listen to while behind the wheel -- because it says research shows loud music can cause accidents.

Three modern songs also made the top five, including "Firestarter" by the Prodigy.

The foundation also provided a top-five list of songs that can be played safely while driving -- though it cautions the volume should be kept down.

That list includes the Norah Jones hit "Come Away with Me."

Carmina Burana; O Fortuna! was at the top of my list too....:))
[it's also great for laughs when you pull alongside of somebody playing their subsonic rap, full blast]

I've listened to Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung and Hall Of The Mountain King (Edvard Grieg) from the Peer Gynt Suite when driving, as well.

[but usually, it's just Jethro Tull on the CD]

The Passion soundtrack is great for night driving on a lonely road.

That and pretty much anything by Motorhead.

LOL! I like to crank "Love Me Like A Reptile" myself.

The Ramones "Rockaway Beach" is a pretty good driving soundtrack too.

If the Doors and Orffs Carmina Burana have that effect, Just think what Ray Manzareks Version of Carmina Burana will do to some drivers!!

Whenever the guitar solo comes on I need to put the cruise control on or I turn into a Highway Star. I'll be listening to it on my way to class this a.m. .

There was a thread last year titled, "What music should the military play during the invasion of Iraq?" We were all suggesting stuff like Godsmack, Metallica, Wagner, then Alouette pipes up and says "Hava Nagila"!!

I fell out of my chair! If only it would happen...

A now defunct 80s hair band, but Savatage has some good renditions of that kind of stuff.

Another suggestion: the Back to the Future theme.
I doubt the sherrif will take kindly to your excuse of attempting to hit 88 so you can go back in time. :P

Still have my KISS long sleeved t-shirt with the same written in bold on the back:

"If it's too loud, you're too old"

Love it!
