California Senate candidate Jones attacks Boxer over terror war

WASHINGTON (AP) - GOP Senate hopeful Bill Jones said Friday that incumbent Barbara Boxer shouldn't be criticizing President Bush over the war on terror, contending that Boxer herself failed to focus on terrorism prior to Sept. 11, 2001. Boxer, D-Calif., chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's subcommittee on international operations and terrorism for several months before the terror attacks on New York and Washington. Shortly after taking over as chairwoman she was quoted as saying she planned to have hearings focused on women, children and other issues.

"If we're going to dissect one memo in August that the president reviewed in 20-20 hindsight, then go back and look at the statements that Boxer made with respect to what issues she was going to focus on when she took over that committee and you don't find terrorism anyplace on the list," Jones said in an interview. "If we're going to use this yardstick we've got to use it on both sides."

Jones was referring to a newly declassified presidential briefing memo warning that Osama bin Laden was determined to attack inside the United States.

His accusation that Boxer was "playing politics" on the war on terror came in response to comments she made in a Los Angeles earlier in the week. Boxer, who voted against use of force in Iraq, said then that Bush fixated on Iraq after Sept. 11, contending he "took his eye off the ball and he's made us less safe."

Boxer's campaign dismissed Jones' criticisms and provided a transcript of a June 2001 subcommittee hearing where Boxer questioned an official nominated to be the State Department's counterterrorism coordinator about what the administration would do to limit the threat of terrorism.

"Clearly once again Bill Jones is either ignorant of the facts or deliberately ignoring them. More than two months before 9-11 Sen. Boxer was questioning the administration and asking them to make sure that combating Osama bin Ladin was their highest anti-terrorist priority," said Boxer spokesman Roy Behr.

What's his position on ccw rights. Asked him once on a radio talk show and he dodged the question.

That's supposed to make his comments about Boxer invalid...?

A US Senator has nothing to do with the CCW rights in California. Any Pubbie rather than Boxer.

Here is a link to Bill Jones on the issues.

Afraid not. It's one of my new litmus tests. At least with boxer, she has some value because she makes all the dims look bad.

But why would you base your vote on an issue that he would have no say on if elected?

No. As to his comments, it looks like he is the one playing politics so I don't understand his strategy here. I can't stand boxer but this guy comes across as a political hack and a nit wit. I have no reason to support him other than getting rid of boxer. Is that the best we can do in ca? Doesn't move me much

I wouldn't base my vote on that issue. I'd base it on my mistrust of him and where he stands on issues important to me including second amendment rights. I have a sense the guy doesn't believe in the right of people to defend themselves and doesn't have the guts to say it.

I recently read an interesting post by Freeper Carry Okie about Bill Jones.

IF what I read was even half right, Jones is just as much a dirty crook as Boxer is - milking the system left, right and center. Perhaps if you do a search it's still out there on Free Republic somewhere.

If Boxer loses, this could cause insurmountable problems in the California congressional delegation. It was the contribution of her 30 or so points that raised the combined IQ total of Boxer, Feinstein, and that other bimbo from hell, Jane Harman, up over the room-temperature mark.
These unbearably inept and idiotic trollops very smartly drove the the defense business from California for openers and will probably burn down the state for closers. Why even the Mexicans line up to multi-vote enthusiastically, if illegally for them, is a mystery to me, since they have done nothing for that particular constituency.

California may have started an alarming trend with these three demo-witches: wealthy husbands sending incredibly annoying wives out into politics just to get some peace and quiet in their many homes. Perfect example: Loretta "Sanchez," the Polish girl who has managed to convince the illegal Mexican voter community that she too, is a Mexican. (However, she was smart enough to steal an election from old B-1 Bob Dornan. Doesn't say much for his brain power either, either.) She is reputedly so dumb that Jane, Dianne, and Barbara won't even talk to her.

There is no hope here!

Incorrect. I said Jones has baggage. He would have to go a very long way further to even touch Barbara Boxer.

If you are referring to forests, you can't say that Feinstein has opposed thinning. She co-authored the Herger-Feinstein Quincy Library Group legislation that authorized fuel breaks and group selection logging to fund the thinning.

Jones clearly has his work cut out for him. The California political graveyard is littered with Republicans who flatlined because they withered under the Democrats' attacks.

Are you blind or stupid? You don't think Boxer's foreign policy focus on women and children -- probably supporting Patty Murray and Osama is their goal to build day care centers -- is a legitimate issue, or a serious concern?

Good grief!

Whoop-de-do! After how many years? The only good thing one can factually say about Feinstein that is to her credit, is that she is somewhat smarter than Boxer. However, if you really need debating points, Carry, you can always claim that both of them are probably smarter than those who voted for them.

That is definitely true of the dead voters who faithfully show up on the correct Tuesdays in California.

The QLG legislation was passed in 1998.

I despise Feinstein, so I don't need "debating points." I was merely correcting your mistatement of the record. DiFi, as despicable as she is, has made more of an honest effort to keep the state from burning to a crisp than a good many Republicans. You make an ass of yourself and this forum for suggesting otherwise.
