9/11 commissioner: 'I've received threats'
CNN ^ | 04/17/2004 | Unattributed

Posted on 04/17/2004 6:04:31 PM PDT by Glenn

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Jamie Gorelick, a member of the commission investigating the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, said Saturday that she received death threats this week after a number of conservatives alleged that her former work in the Justice Department may have contributed to failures leading to the attacks.

In the mid-1990s, Gorelick served as deputy attorney general of the United States. During that time, she wrote a memorandum establishing distinctions between intelligence that could be used for law-enforcement purposes and intelligence that could be used for national security purposes.

That separation was originally required as a safeguard against abuse of citizens' rights by government investigative agencies. But passage of the Patriot Act in the wake of the attacks eliminated the requirement.

The so-called "wall" governing intelligence uses has been a key subject at hearings of the commission. It has been blamed for being a main obstacle to better sharing of information in connection with the September 11 attacks.

"I can confirm that I've received threats at my office and my home," she told CNN on Saturday. "I did get a bomb threat to my home."

She added, "I have gotten a lot of very vile e-mails. The bomb threat was by phone."

ABC News first reported the story Saturday.

Now she is a "victim" the same as Hillarity.

Gotta love it.

I despise Gorelick as much as anybody, but there is absolutely NO excuse for making death threats to her.

I applaud anyone who uses verbal argument against her and her ilk, but I deplore physical threats. It should be beneath us. It puts those who make threats on the level of the DUers.

Maybe this will be her excuse to drop off the committee. There is no more elevated status than victimhood. I didn't see Rumsfeld whining about the ad that had him as target practice, though.

If she has received specific death threats, then I concur.

However, this kind of thing has been used in the past by Clinton people to gin up sympathy, and therefore avoid the real issue at hand.

Which one was she. Was she the red haired, middle aged lady who wore that big fake smile on her face the whole time Condi was testifying? What was she: an ex beauty contestant with left over vaseline on her lips?

Oh, the bomb thread was by phone, and she didn't record it. Not very quick thinking of her, was it?

And what were the exact nature of the threats? Can we read them?

I have a buddy that was on Rummy's security detail. If they want to get Rummy they better have a lot of firepower.

My buddy's job? Simple in essence. If someone shoots at Rummy he takes the bullet.

Ahhhhhh....you may be on to something. Assuming she has received threats, how do we know they didn't come from DUmmies pretending to be FReepers?

You know, as Rush might call them, seminar death threats.

Victim........

The counter-offensive has begun. The first tactic; BLAME RIGHT-WING Conservatives and become a VICTIM of their insane rage. The second tactic; HEROICALLY state that despite death threats you will DO YOUR DUTY. The media/press will eat it up and back you 100%.

It's quite a shift.

In our parents'/grandparents' day, the goal was to distinguish oneself by accomplishment.

Today, it is to achieve victim status.

I think all our external enemies need to do is play billiards and poker, and wait for our internal enemies to complete the job.

"Maybe this will be her excuse to drop off the committee"

She can't just drop off the committee by her own decision. If she does that, she loses her protected status, of not having to testify.

Hopefully, she'll be FORCED off the committee, then be FORCED to testify, though it's doubful that you'd get any more truth than was gottten from Clarke's 'testimony'.

Frankly, I don't believe for a moment that she received a telephoned threat.

She is the poster child for the corrupt administration she served and ought to be forced to testify before the commission rather than be part of the investigation.
