World Naked Bike Ride Day June 12, 2004 (Coming to a city near you)

This hasn't hit the mainstream press yet and you will be reading about it from bonafide, FR approved press sources soon, but for now all the "press" that is covering it is Indymedia, which is banned from FR, so I had to use the offical event website, which contains some mild nude photos.

The local lib-wacko message boards are being spammed with links to this event. If you are shy, please don't click on the link.

So far the US cities listed as having an offical event are as follows: Chicago, New York City, Seattle, Portland, Asheville, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco.

In Asheville, NC the police are having discussions as to if they will turn the other cheek (Sorry, had to say it) or have arrests.

Hell in a handbasket.

People need to realize that the typical naked American body inspires anything but world peace -- maybe consumerism in the way of ephedra or tanning beds, but certainly not world peace.

Ya see, George, there's 'good' naked, and then there's 'baaaad' naked....

On June 12th, 2004, the people of this planet are organizing the world's largest naked event since the dawn of the textile industry. On June 12 cyclists in cities around the world will be riding bicycles naked through their town! Cities already signed on include Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, CanadaLondon, England; Apeldoorn, Netherlands; Portugal; Pforzheim, Germany; Christchurch, New Zealand; Belgie, Belgium; Asheville, NC; Austin, TX; Burlington, VT; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Portland, OR;  San Francisco, CA;  Seattle, WA; and many more locations world-wide are inquiring daily...

The World Naked Bike Ride is being organized democratically through e-mail discussion lists distributed around the world, and local networking through coffee houses, health food shops, bike shops, and the world's counter culture.

Our message to the world is one of simplification, human harmony and love. For a future to  exist for tomorrow's generations, we have to stop wasting the life blood energy of the Earth, stop fighting and killing in the name of consumerist wealth accumulation and learn to love and respect all life.

Arrest every one of them for being naked and stupid

And to do this, they're willing to clean those skinny bicycle seats afterwards. . . .dedication. . .

The story made me think of my old Red Ryder BB gun. When one of those naked riders stood up to pedal... PLINK!

Guess I should do the world a favor and give their seats the Ben-Gay treatment.

It'll be the FASTEST bike ride in history!

Why do I have this nagging feeling that many that will take place in this event are the types that would be fine "without" a seat????

Hubby and I were thinkin' they ought to leave Asheville, ride down toward Landrum, and meet some indigenous folk along the way. ;-)

"Loved that poster! Hung in my room at home, my barracks, and my college dorm, then a skinny girl friend ripped it up in a snit, dammit!

I still have it folded up in the album sleeve. That's right, I said album. I love the clarity and portability of CD's, but, darn it, I miss album covers! There was some great artwork and such back then, and you didn't need a microscope to see it.

Don't they remove the seats and just sit on the posts?

I have a bike, but I can only go 4 miles before my "chops" start going numb.

Y'all need to get one of these recumbent bikes. Ride all day, no butt pain, no wrist pain. Like sitting in an Easy Boy recliner and riding down the street. Super comfortable.

More info^ on 'bent bikes, or, as we like to say, 'getting bent' :)

It's rather difficult to see this taking place in Asheville. Pretty town tho. A hidden jewel.

I liked your comment.

I might just go to this as a spectator. Will there be females?

I will agree with some of the above comments about bicycle seats. No can do. Motorcycle seats are bad enough -- you can get good ones, but they don't come as standard equipment.

This has been in Seattle FOR YEARS!!!
My husband(when not in uniform) works at a company that sells industrial equipment..you know how liberal THEIR customers are :-)
Anyway, this "parade" rolls on by EVERY YEAR...and the customers just stand in the parking lot and stare...
It is hillarious~

The fact that SO MANY people bring their kids to this event is too weird..
