Ronnie, please pass on to Gen. Moore that a nation grieves with him. Candles will be lit.

We must not only remember the sacrafice of our veterans, but of the veteran's families also. They too have given up much for all of our freedoms. Everyday that passes we must find just one veteran and say thank you. That veteran might be the guy who pumps your gas and looks a bit on the derelict side. But when he turns to you, you see the emblem and and the words "Veteran" on his hat. He may even had a medal pinned on it too. Or he might be the guy behind you at the drive-up window at your favorite coffee shop and you notice the "V" on his license plate, maybe accompianed by the purple heart symbol. Reach into your pocket, and give the cashier and extra 2 bucks to pay for the guy behind you. Tell the cashier to tell him, "Thanks for his service to our country". I have done this more than once, and I can't tell you what a wonderful expression the veteran has when he gets the news. For us to have so much, many have given up so much.

In order to keep our lives and the war on terror in perspective, we need to read just one story a week about our servicemen and women in Irag, Afghanistan, or the difficult stories about 9/11.

Please, do not forget.

Oh, goodness, I'm so very sorry to hear of Mrs Moore's sudden passing. My prayers are with Lt. General Moore and his family during this sad time.
"In thy faint slumbers I by thee have watch'd
And heard thee murmur tales of iron wars..."
The above quote, taken from Shakespeare, was featured on page one of the Prologue to We Were Soldiers Once and Young.

Young men who did their best

Into the fire was the test

Led, they did prevail

Courage, duty, honor did not fail

As they fought and some lost lives

Back at home, were waiting wives

There is one who now has gone

Though She will never be alone

But this is not the end

In heaven there are 1st Calv who say,

"We will teach you how to fly my friend"

They started out at Ft Bennings Kelly Hill. Today, I have a son on Kelly Hill. He returned there last Summer from Iraq with the rest of the 3d Infantry Division. Going back again this fall. If you ever get to Columbus GA, visit a piece of history (Ft Benning) and hear the ghosts in the Post Cemetary, the housing areas where they lived and the now condemned old barracks on Kelly Hill. May she rest in piece.
