Contact: Michelle Ringuette of the Catholics for a Free Choice, 202-986-6093 or 617-501-3370 (cell)
News Advisory:
WHO: Leaders from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, France, Spain, the U.S. and other countries adversely affected by Vatican policies; women's health advocates; Catholic theologians; church reform, sexual and reproductive rights activists
WHAT: Protest and demonstration at Vatican Embassy
WHEN: Saturday, April 24 from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
WHERE: Rally, Speeches, Songs, Park at 35th St., Fulton Ave. & Massachusetts Ave., NW (10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.)
11 - 11:30 a.m. -- March to Vatican Embassy and Present Memorial Symbol 3339 Massachusetts Avenue, NW
WHY: The greatest threat to women today is religious fundamentalism. Roman Catholic fundamentalists and the Bush administration have launched a war on women which must be stopped. Catholics for a Free Choice and international activists will confront the Vatican on its worldwide efforts to limit access to family planning, safe abortion, condoms to prevent the transmission of HIV, sexuality education, and emergency contraception.
In conjunction with the March for Women's Lives, scores of people will march to and rally in front of the Vatican Embassy to "Speak Out Against Fundamentalism." Protestors will wear bright red lip masks and carry placards with the message: "Your Voice is Fundamental Against Fundamentalism," highlighting the "unholy alliance" between the Vatican and the Bush administration.
FEATURED SPEAKERS:
-- Carmen Barrosa, regional director, International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region
-- Frances Kissling, president, Catholics for a Free Choice Janneth Lozano, Coordinator, Catolicas por el Derecho a Decidir, Colombia

Why not? If kerry can pick at the buffet, why can't the rest of the "catholics"?

If these clowns can't abide by Church teachings, then they need to leave and start their own church. It's real simple, if you are Catholic follow the rules or get out of my church!

Catholics for free choice = protestant, or some other religion.
If you don't like the edicts of the Catholic church, get the hell out and join some other religion and stop your whining.

If you practiced what the Church teaches you wouldn't have issues with or a need for
safe abortion, condoms to prevent the transmission of HIV and emergency contraception. If these people want these things, go to another faith!

The Catholic Church is not a democracy.
These people should form their own church.

You cannot be Catholic and pro-choice.
Period.
Stop.
End.
These people are some form of liberal Protestant. Someone (preferably a Church leader) needs to tell them to quit besmirching the name of Catholicism.

These people should form their own church. Both of them? Or is it "all three"?

This is like saying, "I'm a baseball player -- BASEBALL is the game I play -- but I should have a FREE CHOICE as to which direction I run around the bases. I want to do so clockwise, not counter-clockwise. And although the rule book says the umpire decides outs, runs, balls and strikes, I say I should have a FREE CHOICE as to those things."
Such may be a fun game, but it ain't baseball.

Both of them? Or is it "all three"? Preferably, "and the horse they rode in on."
