HONG KONG - Rape victim Meimei, 23, from the northern Chinese province of Shanxi, has literally freed herself from the scar of her experience after nine years.
The fair, petite woman turned away all of her many suitors - all because of a tattoo left behind by her rapist.
In 1995, she was abducted and kept in captivity by a man who even branded his name Yang Shunian on her chest, reported Apple Daily. She was only 14 at that time.
Five years later, the police tracked down their whereabouts and freed her from Yang's clutches.
The 45-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in jail but Meimei's troubles were not over.
The tattoo not only made her feel ashamed of her body, it also caused her to worry that people would find out about her past.
Laser treatment could remove the scars but she could not afford it on her mother's 400 yuan (S$81) monthly pension.
But media reports of her plight touched Hong Kong printing plant worker See Kam Tsuen.
For the past two years, the 26-year-old has been saving HK$1,000 (S$215) a month for her surgery.
And on Sunday, he helped Meimei fulfill her wish.
Mr See, who earns HK$8,000 a month, paid about 10,000 yuan in all for her to undergo the treatment in Shenzhen.
But he stressed that he did not have special feelings for her as he already has a girlfriend.
'I was deeply shocked and just had the urge to help Meimei after reading about her from the newspaper,' he told Ming Pao.
As for Meimei, the 13-minute procedure 'has washed away the humiliation suffered for the past 10 years'.
Someone could beat his ass to death in the middle of Tian An Men Square with a brick, and once the case goes public, Chinese courts would find the person doing the beating not guilty.
Chinese version of justice isn't always the same as the American version...
The guy got into a fight with his (ex) girlfriend and ended up pouring acid on her face...
The Chinese courts sentenced the guy to not one, but 5 shots. They shot him once in each limb (not fatal but hurt like hell, especially with a dum dum 9mm), taking about 15 minutes between shots. After each shot they made the guy stand back up at the end of the firing range and take his like a man.
The 5th shot was right in the back of the head.
Of course its all considered human rights violations, but since when has that stopped anyone?
This was obviously a few years back, but from my understanding it happened...
There was a drug ring in a major city of China...
The authorities initially didn't do anything...or so it seemed. They just sat back watching and gathering evidence for about a year.
They got their spies inside and listed names and whatever else of those involved.
After about a year it came down to the final crackdown. All they did was go around kicking in doors and dragging people out of wherever they happened to be at that time. It was literally a couple of thousand people.
About half were sentenced to labor camp.
The other half (after about a half hour trial, in some cases in groups) were sent to a stadium where they (several hundred) were all executed all in one day.
The saying on the street in China is that there is no such thing as a repeat offender.
Now though China has changed, just a little in this respect. I mean very little in some instances. In other cases they are trying to be more fair than they have in the past.
Before they would shoot you for talking about Mao, which that of course has changed A LOT. Now you can tell the governor to take a hike with little problems.
If you are a violent criminal in China though, they will mess you up.
Maybe I am misinterpreting your question...
