ANSWER & allies Plan May 1 "Peace" Protests [my title]

U.S. OUT OF IRAQ
Bring the Troops Home Now
Money for jobs, education and healthcare -
Not for wars of aggression
Nationally-coordinated demonstrations, rallies, teach-ins, and forums on the anniversary of George W. Bush's declaration of the end of major combat operations in Iraq. May 1 was the date that George Bush dressed up like a soldier, flew onto the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, and posed for that disgusting photo op where he could claim credit for the conquering of Iraq. Far from having ended major military combat, the war in Iraq only intensified. More U.S. soldiers have been killed or wounded since May 1 than during the invasion phase of the war. Nearly 10,000 soldiers have been evacuated from Iraq for wounds and other injuries. Tens of thousands of Iraqis have been killed, and in the last week the Bush administration executed a bloodbath as a form of collective punishment for the people of Fallujah and elsewhere throughout Iraq. The May 1 anniversary will be marked by nationally-coordinated activities - demonstrations, rallies, teach-ins, and forums - exposing the lies of the Bush administration.

In addition to demonstrating on May 1, the anniversary of the end of large-scale combat, ANSWER and allies (UFPJ, Code Pink, the usual suspects) are planning on protests on the June 30 date of the handover of Iraq sovereignty.
I've left out the phone numbers. FReepers who plan on a counter-protest should check the link for phone numbers and call to get local plans when finalized. They haven't published any real plans on website, save for the Boston time and location (Park St.).
May 1 is the same date as the DC Chapter evening FReep of the White House Press Corps, but the leftists are likely to be earlier in the day. I don't know whether DC Chapter will take a pass this time or counter-protest and make it a double FReep Saturday.

They're back! Ping to some of the more active DC Chapter members. Same day as our evening White House Correspondents Dinner FReep.
If a decision is made to FReep (and I'm not sure I can do two FReeps that day), I'll ping the rest.

One of the most hate filled groups in the world is calling for peace?
If they really meant it, they'd disown themselves and get real jobs.

Just so you "know your enemy", look at http://www.aim.org and thier investigation into what ANSWER really is.
Bottom line is ANSWER is the "German-American Bund" from WWII updated for the war on terror: a traitorous organization bend on aiding the terrorists, socialists, national socialists, and despots in bringing-down the USA and her allies. Thier goal is our destruction, which, ironically, will result in theirs since Bin Laden would rather slaughter them than breath the same air they do, but I digress.

ought'a pepper 'em down with paint balls...I'll have to disagree. That's a bad idea.
We just want to peacefully put out a contrary message. We'll leave the law-breaking and misbehavior to the leftists. The police can handle it. And we sure don't want to jeopardize our reputation as law-abiding and peaceful.

May 1, huh? The Soviets had a real affinity for May Day, too. How appropriate for these neobolsheviks.

Interesting photos on the AIM web site you listed. You are spot on about the purpose of ANSWER.
Your post may help others to realize that the ANSWER leaders are not pacifists, they just want the other side to beat the U.S. in wars. (DC Chapter has counter-protested ANSWER repeatedly so we are well aware of who they are.)
Our co-leader, Kristinn, debated ANSWER leader, Brian Becker, on C-Span several years ago. We have a 20 foot wide banner saying "Brian Becker is a commie," among other things.
Thanks.

Thanks. AIM.org and protestwarrior.com did a lot of work uncovering what these "peace" groups really are.
Unfortunatly, unless ANSWER, Move-On.org, or any such hate group physically attacks me, my family, or a military installation (all being very dumb things to do), informing people about them in words is all I can do. The US Army frowns on its soldiers showing up in marches, though, if I recall, there were several congressmen at the ANSWER rally in Feb 03 calling for the violent overthrow of the US government.... odd that they were not punished.....

The US Army frowns on its soldiers showing up in marchesShow up to peacefully counter-protest them, even keeping your distance and not disrupting their event, and a few of them might attack you. Or as Doctor Raoul says: "In my adult life, the only people who've hit me or challenged me to fight have been 'peace' protestors."
Maybe former military FReepers BufordP and Dagnabbit can comment on the Army's position about military members lawfully and peacefully protesting or counter-protesting, out of uniform and on their own time?
Thanks for all you and other troops do to safeguard the country and my freedom.

You said the magic words: Own time.
I help train Army officers, NCOs and new enlistees... Not much room for time off. Plus, I'm an officer and we are held to different standards.
As for thanks, it is I who should thank you since it's a priveledge to be in the US Armed Forces and being able to defend people who will fight for political freedom here. I enlisted, went to college and ROTC, and am now an officer. I've been in over 10 years and plan to stay as long as the Army will have me.
Yours in Service,
Chris

I must have slept through whatever military law or ethics course covered off-duty protesting, because I really don't know. We've had some active duty folks, enlisted and officer, join in some of the FR events in which I've participated - aparently without ill efect.
That said, I don't think, were I still in the military, that I would give an interview using my real name, while Freeping.
