Apparently, she didn't want the Bush campaign to be perceived as being behind attacks on Kerry's questionable Vietnam record

Awesome Freep! And great reports and pics.

Wonder about the position of the one who frowned on your sign.

Whether the campaign staff likes it or not, Freepers will be always out to call attention to waffles and flip-flops.

Excellent work and a fabulous report. Sounds like you all had a good time while sending an important message.

Curious, did the bus driver have to take the route that went right past your crowd? :-)

And I want to thank the mine workers for their endorsement this morning. I am lucky to have their support...

After the miners sat behind Kerry while that embarrassment of an interview took place this morning he'll be lucky to keep their support.

I explained to her this was typical Kerry.

I'll bet you got 'the look'. Good job!

No actually she laughed and said yep.

Kerry offended her with his "I'm the next Teddy Roosevelt." statement. She's a Teddy fan, and really just doesn't like Bush.

The rich kids with the vulgar anti-Bush bumper stickers were from the school on Knox Lane.

sonsofliberty2000 told me it was being broadcast live, but we didn't have a radio nearby. Despite the behavior of some of the Dems who gave us the finger, etc., I can't help but believe the folks around here are less than enthused over Beacon Hill Johnny. Sorry you couldn't make it! We're glad the Wheeling Central kids and Bush folk joined us - we were plenty loud.

Choice of waffles or French Toast, maybe, and all the ketchup you can eat?

Here's the story from the Steubenville, Ohio, TV station:

WHEELING, WV -- Hundreds of Ohio Valley residents crammed Wheeling's White Palace to hear John Kerry speak Monday afternoon. Before they took their seats, however, they waited in line for hours just to get inside. Security was tight around the building, and everyone going in was scanned, and guards checked bags.

During the long wait, residents had the chance to talk about why they support John Kerry. "It's such an excitement to be here to see the next president of the United States," said a Follansbee resident.

"Anyone but Bush - that's why I support Kerry," said another. [Of course]

Kerry supporters bashed George W. Bush, saying it's time for him to go. "I think he's doing a terrible job, and I can't wait to get rid of him," said a Kerry supporter.

"We need to get Bush out of the White House, and that's all there is to it! He's not helping us, Iraq is not helping us," said Valerie Collier of St. Clairsville.

"Never in my 76 years have I seen a president down on the working people as much as Bush is," added Kenny Perdue of Clarksberg.

The consensus among Kerry supporters is that John Kerry will be good for the working folks. During Monday's rally, sheet metal workers wore bright yellow t-shirts supporting Kerry, and laborers held signs of support as well. "He's for the working people of West Virginia. We like his platform. Bush is the master of deception for West Virginia. He has never come through with anything," said Kerry supporter Joe Bowen.

Kerry's backers say he's better for health care, education, jobs and better for America. But not everyone agrees with Kerry in the Ohio Valley. Just before Kerry arrived in Wheeling dozens of pro-Bush supporters showed up toting signs and a blow-horn. [??? I think the word is 'bullhorn'] They say Kerry is wrong for West Virginia.

"Bush supports the steelworkers. That's what the valley needs to understand. That's what we're trying to show the valley today," said Bush supporter James Poland.

The Kerry protesters chanted rhymes poking-fun at Kerry, and they questioned his policies. They say he plans on raising taxes and weakening the Patriot Act. Pro-life activists also displayed signs to remind voters Bush is for life, while Kerry is pro-choice.

Congressman Bob Ney was also on hand to support the President. He says Kerry is not for the steelworkers or coal miners in the Ohio Valley. "In 1999, Senator Kerry voted against having the president support tariffs," said Ney. "He's the only senator who voted for the Kyoto Treaty. The Kyoto Treaty would have eliminated every single coal mining job and all the spin off jobs."

Bush supporters continued their rallies Monday night at the Ramada Inn in Wheeling where Kerry was staying during his visit. link

check the picture in the mine again. His little jacket says "Senator Kerry". Can't see the jacket patch too clearly, but I think it is SpongeBob Squarepants. / :)

I was asked by a Bush campaign person not to display my small sign which said, "Kerry dishonors veterans" with a drawing of a band-aid on which was superimposed a Purple Heart. The other side said, "We're not 'Fonda' Hanoi John."

Sheesh!

Why don't we all stand around and hold identical, pre-printed signs, like SEIU and ISO and Kerry supporters then?

I like your sign. Great report and great work, mountaineer!

Freep on!

Kerry said, "If you would have told me today was turkey season I'd be out (hunting) with you."

What a load of bull. I'll bet Kerry never even passed a Hunter Safety Class or ever bought a hunting licence. Come to think of it, did Hillary? She went duck hunting once. Maybe someone should investigate the public records, it would be very embarrassing if they were caught poaching! LOL!

Thanks so much for the FReep. We will Freep him if he comes out here to flyover country.

And while this administration seeks every year to gut the funding for fighting abusive child labor standards and promoting internationally recognized worker rights, I will increase those efforts by 50 percent in my first budget," Kerry said in the statement.
Additionally, Kerry said he will work to increase the trade enforcement budget "to actively pursue our trading interests and aggressively file cases with the (World Trade Organization) where appropriate," and he said he would create a Small Business Advocacy Office to aid small businesses in accessing trade laws.
"These new trade enforcement policies won't build a wall around America," Kerry said.

Child labor enforcement spending up,create a Small Business Advocacy Office these new trade enforcement policies will help? Uh Don't we already have these types of advocacy and enforcement laws in place? More bureaucracy and tax dollars for already existing programs.

I went in to see about starting a small business and boy the State or Oregon was very helpful even setting me up with an advocate in our town to walk me through the laws, regulations ect. So what new advocacy/bureau is he talking about.

Sounds like a great Freep!
Love the Pro Life Catholic youth showing up and King Vanity got a kick out of Flipper.

I have a question though. If Kerry is so delicate out on the campaign trail how is he going to deal with the extreme pressures and responsibilities of being President?

Another thing I was wondering, if he did bow out of the race how is it decided on who takes his place?
Could Hillary slip in and take his place? I have a feeling he is not going to make it out on the trail due to his own lack of stamina and shortcomings. IMO his weaknesses show to much and if I can see them I can't imagine what those closer to the picture can see....

Color cordinated once again I see, bright blue belt accents, along with same blue glove accents to set of the retro look and update the faded Jeans. He missed though with the plain white coal miners hat, forgot the blue accents.

It's is the norm for campaing people to want only certain signs waiving usually they hand out what they deem suitable.

If you we're at a convention they would only allow their signs.
