ABC World News Now. April 27, 2004

In an interview broadcast by ABC's World News Now, the leader of the Al Qaeda cell organizing the explosive and chemical attack on the Jordanian security headquarters and the American Embassy in Jordan stated that he received his training from Al-Zawahiri in Iraq, prior to the fall of Afghanistan.

ABC World News Now. April 27, 2004

I was interested to hear that the leader of the Al Qaeda cell organizing the explosive and chemical attack on the Jordanian security headquarters and the American Embassy in Jordan state that he received his training from Al-Zawahiri in Iraq, prior to the fall of Afghanistan. This training was in the use of weapons of mass destruction using easily obtained chemicals.

This video statement, by the leader of the attack team, proves beyond any doubt that there was definitely a connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda prior to the Liberation of Iraq.

Since Zawahiri is not a chemist, this specific Iraqi and Al Qaeda relationship suggests to me that the tools and techniques to build chemical weapons of mass destruction came from the Iraqis.

President Bush has repeatedly stated one of his reasons for the invasion of Iraq was to prevent Iraqi weapons technology from falling into the hands of Al Qaeda and here is this Al Qaeda team leader stating that is exactly what happened.

ABC News presented the video containing the terrorists statement, but has not made this connection or commented on it.

Just some cross reference details on this...

According to This Report [POISON GAS PLOT] , Azmi al-Jayousi, leader of the terror cell, admitted he was schooled in explosives and poisons in Afghanistan, then plotted in Iraq with Jordanian militant Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, a close associate of Osama bin Laden.

This still shows a link between Iraq & al-Qaeda, but it seems al-Jyaousi's training was actually done in Afghanistan.

Therefore, Bush has failed yet again.

I hope that this is true but there's one thing I've noticed about myself and I'm trying to break myself of the habit is that I'm quick to believe things in the press that I want to believe and quick to dismiss things that aren't.

For some reason I have my doubts about this report being true.

Chemical WMD and al-Qaeda, wow, good thing they were in Jordan so the libs/dems can still claim no WMD or al-Qaeda in Iraq.

[The libs/dems remind me of something a niece pulled 25 years ago when she was about 3 years old.

All of the sudden, she starts yelling, "I can't see! I can't see!"

Family panics. "What's wrong?" "What happened?" "Why can't you see?"

Niece snickers, "I can't see....'cause I've got my eyes shut. hehehe."]

U.S. officials have offered a $10 million reward for al-Zarqawi's capture, saying he is a close associate of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden and is trying to build a network of foreign militants in neighboring Iraq to work on al-Qaida's behalf. His whereabouts are unknown.

From the Daily Telegraph article linked to below: Iraqi police ‘trained al-Qaeda‘

04feb03

IRAQI secret police trained al-Qaeda operatives in poison gas use, according to The New Yorker magazine.

The magazine also claims a radical Muslim group linked to al-Qaeda is operating in northern Iraq.

Citing senior US administration officials, reporter Jeffrey Goldberg reports that Iraqi Abu Abdullah al-Iraqi was sent by al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden to ask Iraq for assistance in poison gas use.

"Al-Iraqi‘s mission was successful, and an unknown number of trainers from an Iraqi secret-police organisation called Unit 999 were dispatched to camps in Afghanistan to instruct al-Qaeda terrorists," he says.

The article does not say when the training was carried out.

Goldberg also claims that the CIA is taking seriously reports that another Iraqi, known as Abu Wa‘el, "is the liaison of (Iraqi leader) Saddam‘s intelligence service to a radical Muslim group called Ansar al-Islam, which controls a small enclave in northern Iraq".

Goldberg says he was told that the area was to be used as an alternative to Afghanistan as a base of operations.

Quoting US and Kurdish officials, he says the enclave is used by an al-Qaeda subgroup known as Jund al-Shams, run by Mussa‘ab al-Zarquawi, "believed by European intelligence agencies to be al-Qaeda‘s main specialist in chemical and biological terrorism".

"I have pledged loyalty to Abu-Musab to fully be obedient and listen to him without discussion," al-Jayousi said in the Jordanian television segment. He said he first met al-Zarqawi in Afghanistan, where al-Jayousi said he studied explosives, "before Afghanistan fell." He said he later met al-Zarqawi in Iraq, but was not specific about when.

ABC report

Who needs facts? We've got a quick statement from TV misunderstood by the original poster but you run with it, okay? Hey maybe this guy knows where 30,000 munitions and 25,000 liters of anthrax are inside of Iraq. Should we pay him $300,000 a month for his 'information' too?

Billbears - it's you who have your facts mixed up.

From the link in #3:

In a confession aired on Jordanian state TV, al-Jayousi, the head of the Jordanian cell of al Qaeda, admitted he was schooled in explosives and poisons in Afghanistan, then plotted in Iraq with Jordanian militant Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, a close associate of Osama bin Laden.

But you've been chief naysayer about links between Iraq and AQ and WMD since day one. Must kill you to be so wrong.

This still shows a link between Iraq & al-Qaeda.

This only proves the relationship in the physical sense. It does not prove "beyond any doubt," however, a working relationship between the Iraqi Governement under SH and al-Qaeda. Not that I care because we had enough reasons to go after SH even in the absence of a relationship with AQ, but really, this proves only that Azmi al-Jayousi received training from an AQ operative -- Al-Zawahiri -- while physically in Iraq. Although the Iraqi government many have been involved, this does not prove it "beyond any doubt." To accept the premise by itself would mean that the United States government was behind the 09.11 attack because many of the hijackers learned to fly airplanes right hear in the CONTUS.

Oh, so it's 'Clintonian' now to not accept every sensationalist report that has no factual evidence behind it? I thought that would be conservative

The links between Iraq and AQ pre 9/11 have been provided for you MANY times. The press wrote over 100 articles about the growing relationship between Saddam and bin Laden in the 90's.

The Weekly Standard and National Review are not magazines I would consider part of the media. But if you want to accept press releases from the PNAC as factual evidence that's your business. I'm just wondering if you'll be as 'gung-ho' about this WOST if it's led by someone of another party. Frankly I don't think so. Your partisan values are glaring

Your denials are silly. And so are you.

If refusal to sell out my values and my ability to deduce there has been no evidence provided by the administration to support your claims is silly, than I'm ridiculous as h#ll. Didn't you get the RNC memo? It's not about 'terrorism' in Iraq anymore. It's 'spreading democracy'

The AP has had stories about the Jordanian chemical attack that was thwarted. There are many stories about it. They have been verified, but nothing could ever be verified to your standard.

The links I have from the 90's when the press was reporting on the growing relationship between Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein are from mainstream newspapers and magazines including Newsweek and the NYT. You know - your standard bearers.

As well, we have a Jordanian leader of the AQ terrorists admitting on television that he trained in Iraq in WMD with OBL's head henchman.

But NO PROOF will ever be enough for you. You don't want to be wrong. I understand that. But it doesn't take away from the central fact that you have been proven wrong.

The smell of vindication just gets stronger every day.
