April 27, 2004 -- THE conventional wisdom is that the presidential election will be close. It's a 50-50 country, so the CW goes, just as it was in the year 2000.

Kerry is a terrible, terrible, terrible candidate.

It's not so much the policies he proposes, although they don't add up to all that much. The problem is Kerry himself. He no sooner opens his mouth than he sticks first one foot and then the other right in there.

Kerry is going down way too fast. I fear he will be completely imploded by the time the DNC convention rolls thru. Edwards worries me still. He would be much harder to beat in the GE. RNC needs to do some damage control for Kerry's team until Kerry shores up the nomination. IMO

Guys, you should have gone with John Edwards.

I would fear more from Lieberman than Edwards. Edwards is easily and rightly portrayed as a lawyer who made his fortune from "litigation lottery" and would be in the back pocket of the trial lawyers.

I agree. I told my wife before the Dem Primaries that Lieberman would be the toughest to beat, mainly because he would attract many liberal Repubs and conservative Dems. Good thing the Democrat Party is controlled by the far left.

Whatever Dole's shortcomings, his character is certainly much better than Kerry's, and he was a real war hero who received some serious injuries in the service of his country. He also has a great sense of humor, unlike the dour, humorless, and self-important Kerry.

I'm also worried that Kerry will implode too soon. How can anyone like a jerk like that? The Deaniacs are probably still angry at him. Patriots among union members (who are a considerable majority) are not going to support a fellow who tosses his medals, lies about it, and then blames Bush for the mess he's in. People who support social justice are not very comfortable with a rich gigolo with five houses and a fleet of SUVs who constantly looks down his nose at them.

The Dems are perfectly capable of thinking up an excuse to pull Kerry from the race and throw in a substitute. Podhoretz mentions Edwards. I think still think hillary.

It doesn't matter what Kerry does the ball is not in his court. This is a retrospective election, and everyone will vote based on the President's performence. Either Bush will win BIG or lose BIG. The economy is no longer an issue, so all that matters is Iraq, War on Terrorism and National Security. Hopefully Bush will handle things well, and will lead this nation to victory.

I think the media is trying to blow Bush up just like how it was in 2000 when everyone was talking about Gore's bad choice of "populism" and how he was stiff and a bad candidate.

We cannot just assume that Kerry is imploding. Its going to be a tough fight and its going to come down to key states and turnout just like last time.

Ask yourself: Aside from fund-raising success, has he had a good day?

To me, that's like saying to the Titanic crew, "Aside from the iceberg, how was the maiden voyage?"

Kerry is raising a ton of money. If he were truly tanking, his fundraising would be a concern. At this point I've seen not a shred of evidence to support that.

Really. I'll probably die never having voted for a Democrat, but Lieberman's one of about two Democrats in recent years I could conceivably have voted for.

I don't want Kerry to trough too fast -- he still has plenty of time to come back, and there is so much that could happen, e.g. in Iraq or a new massive terrorist attack, that could change the situation fundamentally between now and November.
