Sorry, no one is to blame for their plight but they themselves.

Left-Wing "Friends" Hurt Blacks-How the Left has decimated the black community

An even better argument:

Blacks account for 12% of the population but account for nearly 40% of all abortions.

Thomas Sowell is right on the mark.
Mostly our LIBERAL government types aided by the Teacher Unions and teachers have corrupted the learning process so that the poor and black children is these marginal and failing systems are doomed to failure.
The Prime requisite for real Black Leaders would be to really demand sincere good education for these kids but sadly they are too busy taking care of themselves and putting out more programs which continue the failure.

A glaring example is that some "Leaders" are too busy shaking down businesses to extort money and then not using the money to help the very children who need it.
Thomas Sowell is the Word.

How the Left has decimated the black community through condescension and the bigotry of low expectations.

lets not forget the huge loss the black population has endured through abortions.

A person only stays down by refusing to get up.

It was Frederick Douglass!

I can't understand why people like Frederick Douglass aren't held up as role models for black youth, or for black people generally. Or maybe I can understand, but the reason seems so insane that something inside me wants to reject it out of hand.

My own experience as a teacher was that black students would meet higher standards if you refused to lower the standards for them.

Actually, IMO, this applies to all students, regardless of race. Every professor I had who refused to come down to my level, but made me come up to theirs taught me more and made me a better student overall. I'm white, btw.

Dr. Sowell has well documented the accomplishments of Wash., D.C.'s all black Dunbar High School which, as recently as the early 20th Century, graduated students whose achievements were every bit on par with and often surpassed the achievements of their white counterparts. Dunbar's accomplishments were so outstanding that Harvard provided open entre to any Dunbar graduate BECAUSE of the excellence of their curriculum and education staff.

As for Fredrick Douglass, the more I learn about this astonishing man, the less I understand why the black community rejects him. Douglass brought himself up from poverty and rose to heights that most of us should envy. He was a brilliant man who understood, himself, blacks and human nature in general, perhaps better than any of the so-called "do-gooders" out there with their "feel-good" recipe for black Americans. If we want these people to succeed, we have to stop treating them as if they need special attention.
