Years ago, Bill Buckley threw his vocal support behind Joe Lieberman instead of Lowell Weicker in CT.

Lieberman was arguably to the right of Weicker.

Not really. You cannot predict where Bush will request a quid pro quo for the support of Specter. It will happen but on what...we don't yet know.

So this to you is the behavior of one beholden? "Less than a day after his primary victory, Specter touted his efforts to trim tax cuts, retain overtime pay for workers, resist school vouchers and continue embryonic stem-cell research - all in opposition to President Bush."

Maybe. It's the behavior of someone running to the center after running to the right in the Primary. The quid pro quo will come on something important...like a vote...not in words or political rhetoric.

Maybe.

Then you and I are using different dictionaries.

Nope. Maybe...as in the context that Bush will call in his cards on an important issue...like a vote...not in words in the middle of a campaign. Bush isn't concerned - he knows Specter will support him on the majority of the key issues coming forward.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Look, I've stated the truth, you don't want to believe it, that's your perogative.

Toomey had NO CHANCE state wide... NONE. He couldn't even beat Spector in a low turnout primary with just republicans voting. He had no chance in the general.

You don't choose to believe it that's fine, but that's the political realities of this state.

Head of the Judiciary Committee as well! What a victory for conservatism coast to coast.

You obviosly prefer Joe Hoefel as the Senator From PA. You worked hard to defeat Spector so you could make Tom Daschle Majority leader again. What you are saying is that you prefer Pat Leahy as chairman of the Judicary Committee to Spector... those were your real choices..... even if you don't know it.

Your candidate proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that puriss conservatives could only get half the Republican vote in an election with a very small turn out. Your side got one half of 1/3 of the 3 million Republican voters.

You sent the RINOs a big message. The message was the Purists could not defeat the most RINO Republican Senator with money effort and media support. If you can't beat Spector in a low turn our primary you can't defeat any RINO. All you proved is that RINOs have nothing to fear from Purists.

That is the message you sent. Why are purists suprised that Spector and every other RINO got it?

What in God's name could you possibly be talking about?!? I've never read a more nonsensical post in all my days.

Specter had the money. Specter had the party. Specter had the media. Specter had the president and the other incumbent senator.

Are you living in some delusional alternative universe?

Congratulations again. You'll love the liberal judges Specter allows through the committee. Should warm the cockles of your liberal Republican heart.

>> Mr. Jeffords, when you switched from the Republican Party to a so-called "independent" to "send the GOP a message," how did it feel? <<

"Well, I REALLY appriciated all the "pragmatic" Republicans like yourself who supported me in the primary back in 2000 because I had an "R" next to my name and I could "win". Thanks for all your donations and votes, SUCKERS!!

We RINOs have practically destroyed the GOP state parties in Illinois, Tennessee, and New Jersey...and we're hoping to wipe out any remaining party strength in Pennsyvania and California now.

Unfortunately, some votes in my state WISED UP after I switched parties and nominated one of those "unelectable" conservative candidates for Governor who WON in 2002!! Damn it, I HATE when you people realize that good government conservatives CAN win in states like mine!! Grrr, now my days might be numbered too!! Get these bastards back to voting RINO in the primary like good little sheeple!!"

"So it's the certainty of a pro-abort chairing the committee if Specter wins versus the possibility of a pro-abort chairing the committee if Specter loses."

Yes, even though abortion has nothing to do with the Judiciary Committee. I don't like it either, but Pennsylvanians voted the way they did.

Some people here will be voting for Jim Clymer because they believe Specter won't support Bush enough. That's a little ironic because the Constitution Party has failed to support the President on the most important issue: the War on Terrorism. They oppose the Patriot Act and the Department of Homneland Security, and if it had up to them, Saddam would still be terrorizing Iraq. When it comes to the War on Terrorism, even John Kerry is closer to George W. Bush than Jim Clymer is.

I absolutely refuse to vote for my gay, pseudo Democrat congressman Jim Kolbe here in AZ. either. Anybody that voted for Specter should be having their meds increased.

Perhaps if the Republican Party wishes to have conservatives support their candidates, they should give us some decent conservative candidates to vote for. Now, that doesn't seem so hard to understand, does it?

He [Specter] said he could help Bush in the fall by pulling moderates to the GOP ticket.

IOW, Specter is "rewarding" the GOP by infecting the party with the RINO Virus.

I can see the bumper stickers now ... Vote Specter! He's not as liberal as Ted Kennedy.

Can someone please hit reset and start this whole Representative Republic thingy all over again...?

What a nightmare the GOP has been and continues to further become.

There are no good guys left. Just bad and horrible.

Will Specter "be any help to the Republican cause"? Absolutely YES! He will, simply by having an 'R' by his name allow the GOP to continue to hold and potentially expand their power in the Senate. Moreover, he now owes Bush politically. That is not to be underestimated. Specters victory will indeed be a big help to the Republican cause. That's what politics is all about.

Finally, in your long-winded, condescending tirade you get to the exact point I was making.

I can, indeed, underestimate Specter's indebtedness to President Bush because Specter doesn't GIVE A SH*T. He's not going to repay the debt. That's the entire point of this thread.

You're calling me a fool after the tripe you've posted on this thread?

Geez, that's really a good case of the pot calling the kettle black!

Did my accusing you of a being a traitor strike a little too close to home?

I think it did.
