Rush was RUDE today!!!!!!
Rush Limbaugh | 4/29/04 | myself

Posted on 04/29/2004 11:58:44 AM PDT by pollywog

I am SO ANGRY at Rush Limbaugh right now!! In his last segment he really bashed and basically made fun of people who have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. He apparently has not done " his homework" on this one.He read from a article, but I didn't hear who had written it. My granddaughter and husband both suffer from Aspergers. It has been a very difficult journey for our daughter and son in law. Rush will get LOTS of angry emails concerning this!!!

It's kind of like that fictional town in Prairie Home Companion where "all the kids are above average"... only in reverse. It's a scam

Unless you are the parent/grandparent of one of these kids. no scam, I tell you, just heartbreak and lots of hard work.

I got the "He just needs to be spanked more" routine from my father for YEARS. When my mother finally told me she had come to realize he could NOT control his behavior, I sat down and started crying. The judgemental behavior of so many people is devastating for parents trying to find a way to help their children

Oh yes. I know exactly what you are saying when you hear " get a handle on that kid" over and over. It hurts so. Glad your son is blossoming. ((((((CYBER HUGS)))))).

thanks to viagara there are numbers of men over the age of 40 who have vascular disease, who are on antihypertensives and other medications that are able to have a healthy sex life. they may be men going to prostitutes {who cares} but most, the vast majority are married men who love their wives. I think Bob Dole is a good example. Why should that bother you.

Is this the same Terry Meiners that has his lips permanently, surgically affixed to Rick Pitino's posterior?

I heard Rush, too, and was kind of surprised by the lack of empathy. That's the way I took it anyway.

Rush, if you're lurking, I'm just gonna chalk it up to your being very tired today. I know you've walked in some tough shoes lately; don't forget that others do, too.

Ditto!!!!!!!!

Bwahahahaha!!!!! The US Booze & Girls Report is a quack journal, same as Slime Magazine, Newspeak, and the Washington Pest.

I'm with you. Unless I see it on Fox News or read it on World Net Daily, I don't believe it.

Yes, it's genetic, and there's no one "type" of Asperger's person, which is why it's called a "spectrum disorder" - it manifests all along a "spectrum."

There's a tendency in conservative-land to assume that every mental illness, every learning disability, and every neurological variation is somehow made up by the evil school system or by liberals.

This is a good article about Aspergers and autism (especially the genetic connection.) One reason it may be increasing so much is because many "non-neurotypical" people end up working in computer engineering - they marry each other, and then have more Asperger's kids. Oliver Sacks writes about a whole Asperger's family of *very* bright people - but definitely not 'typical.'

Would you add me to your autism ping list please?

You're on Bella_Bru. It's not a very active ping list.

If Rush makes fun of virtually any group at any one time, does anyone know, does he make fun of drug addicts?

Or people with coclear implants?

I'm currently listening to Rush on 24/7. I don't think he was being rude. He seemed to me to really come away from the article believing that it is shyness.

I welcome the opportunity to help educate Rush on this matter.

Looks like the average dope smoking, public school educated teenager.

Which would be fine if it were some moron Internet Newsboard poster, but when the individual in question is 5 or 6 years old, I think we can pretty much rule out the dope smoking, public school educated part....

Our pediatrician put our son on Straterra. At first, it seemed to be working well, but he never ate. Then a few months later, he constantly had a stomach ache. We took him to the doctor and it turned out there was a new Straterra out because the previous version was reported to be presenting problems. Last summer, my wife and I decided to just take him off the meds because we were never truly convinced that he had ADD. He was also very skinny and almost seemed to stop growing. He has since had a growth spurt and he eats all the time.

Might be a good idea. I have many thoughts on the so-called ADD thing because my son was diagnosed with it. I was never convinced that he had it, so after about a year of taking straterra and watching him get very thin, we took him off of it this past summer to see how he did in school. He did well as long as the material was interesting. The big thing that we had to help him with was getting organized. He does not have attention deficit. He has selective attention, as do many other children. He also has an incredible willpower to do only what he wants to do. If he does not want to do something, he will not do it, no matter the consequences.

context? ha. like rush always puts his stories in context.

most of his chuckling over newswire stories have half the story missing just so he can make them seem dumb or funny.

I liked him better 10 years ago when he would actually say something, not drag up ever minute thing a liberal does and laugh about it for 29 minutes.

pretty soon its just going to be him laughing with no other content at all.

My mother compared my daughter with brain damage to a child with down syndrome.

That child went to church and sat quietly with his mother.

My child until she was 5 (or older) wouldn't. My mother just thought I wasn't as good as this other mother.

Special children are very unique, and require a lot of patience.

I just get so mad at people saying it's the parents fault, and that we don't know how to discipline our children.

I have a 39 year son who,had he been born later, would have been diagnosed with ADD. He was a great kid,but in constant motion and had some problems in school, but it was just his personality. He was the class clown and had tons of friends, and still does.

When he finished college he realized he could never work in an office so started his own plumbing business.

He's done much traveling and is in the Andes right now,he loves South America.

They are usually interesting kids that turn into interesting adults.

My son isn't on the meds because of inattention. I could work with that. He has ZERO impulse control. He can NOT control his behavior at times. His problems are compounded by sleep difficulties. He has dysgraphia and some kind of learning disability in the are of writing.

When we finally gave in on the meds, my husband and son had NO relationship left, my daughters and I were beginning to be afraid of my son, my daughters were being cheated of my attention, and my family was beginning to fall apart. He has been a constant stress on our family since he turned a year old.

He managed to compensate for his problems while in school as he is a borderline genius, but as he got into the upper elementary classes, compensating no longer worked.

The medication has saved my family, and I refuse to accept the judgement of ignorant people who have never lived through this.
