In an interview set to hit newsstands next week, prospective first lady Teresa Heinz Kerry reveals that after she became pregnant at age 45 she decided to have an abortion.

"Twenty years ago, Heinz Kerry says she became pregnant, and, upon learning she was carrying a fetus that would be born severely deformed, made an appointment to end the pregnancy," People magazine reports in its upcoming May 10 issue.

She was relieved when she miscarried before the day arrived.

So what was she doing, celebrating afterwards? Every woman I have ever known to have a miscarriage has flashbacks for the rest of her life.

I don't know about that. I know many women who have had miscarriages and have feelings of sadness around due dates but Flashbacks? Most people that I know don't. Miscarriages happen alot and most sort of accept that if it was meant to be it would have been. Flashbacks are not that common a thing in people. Thinking about something is not a flashback. I guess the word is overused.

Teresa did not have an abortion by her account. This issue seems to be something being ginned up and does not reflect well on anyone involved,,either Teresa or those who gin it up.

I guess the word flashback was not a good choice. Thanks for explaining it to me.

The logical reason for her talking about her plan to abort is that people were going to find out about it sooner or later. She had nothing to gain politically from talking about this. The single issue voters who vote only on the issue of abortion were already decided on wether they would vote for her husband or Bush.

If you're too old to take care of a baby, don't open your legs.

My Grandmother was 44 when she gave birth to my mom.

I'm personnally glad SHE didn't have an abortion because my mom could have beem deformed in some ways due to grandma's age at the time.

BTW, my mom is a normal, happy woman who herself had four children, of which I'm the oldest. My sisters and my brotyher all have beautiful children of thier own and my brother will be a granfather the end of October.

I'm glad my Grandmother gave birth to my mom!

It is time we pro-lifers got into deeper discussion and aired the oft avoided issues such as rape, incest, and imminent threat to the mother's life. A key to such discussion might be the notion of 'self-defense'.

People is a shallow, decadent, gossip-mongering, celebrity-obsessed magazine, filled with pictures for its barely literate readership.

I heard a story from a man who had gone in one by one with his 5 siblings to visit alone with their dying mother.

Each one came out declaring that they now KNEW that they were their Mom's favorite child. :o)

I know that I have FOUR favorite children!

The older girl lived six years. The younger girl lived seven years. Everyone who knew them found them a great blessing in their lives.

One great fear is Down's Syndrome. One can hardly find a more delightful human being than a child with Down's. Why can't love a child because it is God's gift to us?

The 'choice' crowd views a Down's child as an unnecessary burden, to be exterminated. It's a matter of extreme selfishness, don'tcha know.

Babies conceived through rape or incest are no less human than those conceived through love. Abortion in those cases is still killing. And the studies show that conception by rape or incest rarely happens. To use this as an argument for legal abortion is ludicrous.

As for Life of the mother (not Health of the mother), sensitive doctors would not be making decisions to let one or the other die. In those cases, a doctor should be brought in to care for the unborn baby, and a doctor to care for the mother, and every effort made to save both.

I agree that both patients should be treated ... there is even a hope that in the not so distant future, even an ectopic pregnancy may be maintained to birth or moved to the shelter of the mother's womb or into an artificial womb. sadly, there are instances where a pregnancy needs to be ended in order to save a woman's life and she should have such a right of self-defense. That doesn't argue for abortion on demand to remain legal ... our current status is serial killers on demand, murderers for hire. Try to associate self-defense with culture of life. If applied rightly, a very few abortions would happen and our society would be welcoming millions of our alive fellow human beings instead of slaughtering them under subpreme court protection.

You response appears to be geared toward what you have traditionally argued against, rather than what I offered for discussion. Can we try again?
