Mr. Hamilton is president of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, which was hosting Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, who was making his only major policy speech in Washington at noon. Mr. Kerrey, the president of New School University, had a meeting scheduled with Sen. Pete V. Domenici, New Mexico Republican, to discuss an appropriation item.So here are the items that caused the scheduling mis-match:
1. The President of the United States, as well as the Vice-President, answering questions regarding a foreign attack on American soil killing thousands of American citizens
2. A foreign policy speech by the Prime Minister of a country that has an army about the size and strength of a Little League Baseball team.
3. A single item of appropriation for a single University.
I think that congressional Republicans are missing an opportunity by merely criticizing Kerrey and Hamilton here.
They should be leveling them with scorn and sarcasm.
This is material that can make any Republican an instant Jay Leno. I mean really, just think how easily a Republican of any public stature could use the above list to truly make Kerrey and Hamilton objects of public ridicule, objects of public scorn, objects of public contempt.
And I just wish one single Republican would have the guts to say the truth:
