New Web Site Alleges Conservatives Control Media.

Upset at an alleged conservative dominance of the news media, the liberal Center for American Progress has created a new think tank dedicated to rectifying the problem by exposing "erroneous assertions" made by conservative media figures.
Heading the effort is, David Brock, who made a name as a conservative journalist and author but later renounced his work and proclaimed he was a liberal.
"The right wing in this country has dominated the debate over liberal bias," Brock told the New York Times. "By dominating that debate, my belief is they've moved the media itself to the right and therefore they've moved American politics to the right."
Brock hopes that his new organization, through its Web site www.mediamatters.org, will be able to take back the debate through reaching out to the Internet-using public and providing fodder for liberal radio personalities to discuss.
Instead of focusing on news personalities and publications which claim to be nonpartisan, however, Media Matters will apparently target commentators. Visiting the site's offices, Times reporter Jim Rutenberg couldn't help but notice that small-audience cable news is the bee in David Brock's bonnet:
"In Mr. Brock's new K Street offices on Friday morning, a team of nearly a half-dozen researchers [...] wore headphones as they scanned episodes of cable news programs stored on digital recording devices, among them Hannity & Colmes on Fox News Channel, Dennis Miller on CNBC and Scarborough Country on MSNBC. Two researchers have been assigned to cover Mr. Limbaugh, whose program they will regularly transcribe."
It's hard not to see that focus shift as somewhat of a concession to the view that the biggest news outlets in America are controlled by liberals. If the best they can do is pick bones with people who are frank about their political views, don't expect Brock & Co. to be around for long.

"It is true that since there is a more moderate venue of opinion now available in the media, that the typical far left perspective has indeed moved to the right."
I don't see it. The tv, print and journos are more to the left and shriller than ever since they cannot control the dissemination of news.
Watching the evening news and cable is like watching Terry MacAuliff and the DNC talking points slammed at your brain. They have given up any pretence at this point.

The standard Leftist argument is that since a few large conglomerates control most of the TV and radio stations, the media obviously has a conservative bias (because large conglomerates are, of course, by definition "right-wing, conservative, reactionary" entities).
Exactly. According to Marxist-Leninist-Trotskyites any business which seeks a profit and hires wage-slaves is reactionary and conservative.

We need to rephrase this debate. The "media" may indeed be conservative because conservatives dominate talk shows, where they have to earn a profit.
It is "journalism" that is horribly unbalanced and liberal and which does not have to earn a profit -- and which should have strict numerical balance imposed on it. Journalists should have to make a declaration of party affiliation and/or philosophical leaning when they apply for jobs. They won't know what orientation needs filling when they do so they won't be able to lie. Meaning, at first they will know they must claim to be conservative because they are overwhelmingly liberal now, but after a few years the new hires won't know which way to lie so they will just tell the truth.
As for talk shows, if liberals feel they can make a profit, let them have at it.
So be careful of phrasing. It isn't the media that is biased. It is journalism that is biased. This will irritate them because they know journalism schools are staffed with liberals. It is undeniable. They try to claim talk shows are their excuse. Use the proper wording and they are denied this.

huh?
The right wing in this country has dominated the debate over liberal bias
The liberal mind's defense mechanism is that people are tricked into conservatism. And they believe that, because that's what they do.

Yeah really. ABS, NBS, CBS, CNS, and what have you - guess all that liberal propaganda is the vast right wing conspiracy's means of keeping all those liberals glued to their TV sets. They have a point - its working. hehehe.

what's revealing about Brock's comment is that he believes that making media moves along the political spectrum automatically moves the popular politics in that direction. Turnabout, in this case, is more than fair play... it reveals the left's true agenda. If media can move right (and take the sheeple with them) they can also move left.
There's a saying in spanish that describes this perfectly; "...segun su condicion juzga el ladron..." which roughly translated means the thief believes everyone wants to steal from him.
Mr. Brock has admitted in so many words that the direct wish of the leftist media is to move American politics, to move America, to the left.

That's what they have, huh. What they have can be disputed. As far as the right wing attack almost bringing down a president, what the hell is the left doing now. They can put this bs up against the MRC any day. Anyway, they already have FAIR for their left wing media center.

That's because the DNC and Terry Mcauliffe don't represent the far left....they represent democrats. Because you now have some moderate programs like Fox news, the news seems slanted further to the right....to the FAR LEFT. Remember the far left, in this country consider themselves to be the intellectual wing of progressive movement. Think Nation magazine and Katrina van den Heuvel. They have never seen a far left media, because everyone is further right than they are.

...among them Hannity & Colmes on Fox News Channel, Dennis Miller on CNBC and Scarborough Country on MSNBC. Two researchers have been assigned to cover Mr. Limbaugh, whose program they will regularly transcribe." Each of these programs is a news commentary program where the hosts make no attempt to hide their bias or represent themselves as being impartial. Contrast with ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, and NPR who present the news with an agenda that they cannot hide no matter how hard they try. Their agenda is crystal clear when you look at not only what they report but what they fail to report. Their failure to give the whole story has given Fox News and the other conservative veiwpoints their market.
