Kerry's problem with veterans (The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth)

Nineteen of the 23 officers who served with John Kerry and every one of his commanding officers in Vietnam have signed a letter that says he is not fit to be commander in chief. In a press conference yesterday, members of The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth released the letter criticizing Mr. Kerry's slanderous statements about alleged widespread atrocities by American soldiers during the war. Being on the defense against fellow veterans could do serious damage to the Kerry campaign, especially as the country is at war again. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth could have impact because of the impressive number of veterans involved. Hundreds of Vietnam vets, from admirals to seamen, have signed the letter. According to John O'Neill, who was in Mr. Kerry's unit during the war, "[The signers] run across the entire spectrum of politics, specialities and political feelings about the war." This large group goes a long way toward countering the handful of veterans who have defended Mr. Kerry in commercials and on the stump.

The drip, drip, drip of TRUTH will start to sound like an incoming tidal wave very soon, to Kerry's chagrin.

This story is even getting ignored by everyone...even the Washington Times (making only a small op/ed as opposed to a news article)

Sigh....

Along with calling and complaining, LOUDLY, to AP for spiking this story, everyone should copy and paste it, and send it to be printed on their hometown newspaper's editorial page, pointing out the obvious bias of AP for not having it on their wire.

Kerry wants to claim the veteran vote, but I think the vast majority of veterans know what he attempted to do to their legacy of heroism and sacrifice.

That is coming from tomorrow's paper. I am sure there is also an article describing the press conference.

It won't hit his campaign like a sudden heart attack, more like slow-moving stomach cancer.

Either way, it's a political death sentence.

This has been replaying on cspan 2 for past hr or so and I am RIVETED to the screen. These veterans are scathing in their remarks against Kerry -- just dispassionately stating their experiences and facts. WOW.

James Zumwalt, Adm. Zumwalt's son: "We're not the kind of people you push around."

Sen. Kerry is a real idiot not to have appreciated this fact.

John O'Neill -- spokesman swift boat veterans for truth -- doing great job. All these guys are.

Adm. Roy Hoffman -- chairman of the group -- got letter from Kerry 3/15 -- I simply cannot consider this man as commander in chief -- that was the conversation. He/They were also asked what changes or corrections (Kerry's book people) could make for the book's future issue -- "I didn't make any suggestions." (iow, it was such crap, wasn't worth saying anything.)

Earlier they were asked if anyone had paid for their transportation; had Bush's people been in contact with them? They were offended by this, clearly said so.

Kerry"s continuous flaunting of his "war record" is becoming a deficit to his campaign from vets who resent being labeled as war criminals.

NYT says only 200 men are represented. I wouldn't call that good coverage. It's enough to make the average reader go YAAAAWWWWNNN.
