Don't worry, I know of what I speak. My comment referred to the .30-06 Springfield vs. the .308 Winchester, the former of which is the more powerful round. I prefer the .308 Winchester as a battle round (such as in the
M-14), although the .30-06 Springfield in the M-1 Garand is also a superb battle round. For hunting and "reaching out and touching," the .30-06 Springfield is my preferred choice.

I have an Enfield bolt .308, and love it. I'd like a FAL or G36 clone I think though, for semi-auto higher capacity.
The M1 Garand's big downside is you can't reload until the last shot is fired. At least the original design. Does Springfield have a newer type?
