Reaching People (Inside the Beltway) -- Free Republic, "Cops's Cheer" Mentioned
The Washington Times/Inside the Beltway ^ | Thursday, May 6, 2004 | John McCaslin

Posted on 05/06/2004 6:05:32 AM PDT by Angelwood

Actress Drew Barrymore is filming a documentary aimed at persuading young people to vote. She recently happened upon members of the D.C. chapter of FreeRepublic.com, the conservative grass-roots network, as they conducted a Washington protest.

"Can I ask you guys a question?" Miss Barrymore said. "You come out and you protest. Do you feel that it makes a difference? Do you feel that you reach people?"

Group leader Kristinn Taylor answered: "We used to do this down at the White House every Saturday for a couple years when Bill Clinton was there. It goes like this" — and here Mr. Taylor turned to his fellow Freepers, to have them join in the chant. "You guys ready? One, two, three: 'Bill Clinton, we have you surrounded! Drop the cigar, step away from the intern, and come out with your pants up.' "

"Wow," said the actress.

"The first time we did that," Mr. Taylor said, "the Secret Service officer who was working the gate started laughing so hard he doubled over and walked behind the guard shack to compose himself."

FOFLOL! Thank you Mr McCaslin! That sort of humor WILL reach a lot of people. I've always loved Inside the Beltway...now I love it more.

McCaslin's column in the Washington Times had an attractive photo of Drew Barrymore with the caption, "Actress Drew Barrymore received a lesson in activism during a Washington encounter with 'Freepers.'"

Yes, Angelwood. You should write a book about the DC Chapter's adventures during the Clinton years. You know it would be a best seller with FReepers. Sean could have you on his show and you could explain life to Colmes.

I see you appearing on CSpan Booknotes. This has potential.

I don't know Drew Barrymore's politics (most likely liberl),

Right you are.

At a premiere for one of the Charlie's Angels movies, Barrymore and co-stars Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu all wore t-shirts describing George W. Bush as a "son of a Bush." I think it was before the 2000 election and the full t-shirt was something like "Don't elect a son of a Bush."

Drew is a die-hard Liberal. She and her looney Hollywood friends wore anti-Bush shirts to their film debuts.

She's a nice polite slut...but still a slut.

The Great Angelwood and Kristinn interviewed by Drew Barrymore -- magnificent! It's an irony I can't even begin to describe that she's out after political activism and she ran in to you guys. So marvelous!

The greatest thing about the "Get Out of Cheney's House" -- and this defines Freepers in general and the DC Chapter in particular -- is that the protests consisted of common citizens with no particular interest other than to express their outrage. At our corner of 34th & Mass there were no professional dissenters, no hidden agendas, and no subversion; just plain, honest outrage.

You guys have achieved the sublime in seizing a tool the Left considers its own.

I'll never forget the first time I heard you guys do the Cops Cheer. Bent over laughing, indeed!

Btw, McCaslin is an angel for his reports on your events.

God bless ya!

I'm just amazed to learn that there is a D.C. Chapter

For your convenience, I'll post again with links to various direct reports from that event.

DC Chapter (click here for our web site) is quite active, partly because of the tremendous opportunities to peacefully protest liberals here in the DC area. Also, we've held numerous counterprotests to left-wing protests of Bush and the war and held numerous support the troops rallies including C-Span covered speeches by FReepers and invited speakers.

If you want to be added to the DC Chapter ping list, let me know by reply or by FReep mail. For those close to DC, it allows you to be informed in advance and possibly participate in our activities. For those further away, being on the list keeps you informed of our activities.

To follow DC Chapter activites, you can also search for the keyword "dcchapter" either directly or just by clicking right here.

In August of 1998, members started protesting Clinton outside the White House every Saturday, with few exceptions, until DIRT-XXX-POTUS (disgraced, impeached, rapist, traitor, ex, President of the United States) and his bride left with the White House silverware and furniture.

In November of 2000, members of DC Chapter started the "Get out of Cheney's house" protests against the SoreLoserman holed up in the Vice Presidential mansion.

In the time since then, we have FReeped:

- Hillary at least 6 times including up close and personal last August,

- Bill Clinton appearances in the area (including once when an angry Clinton personally demanded to know who was paying the FReepers),

- Algore at least 3 times,

- Sens. Tom Daschle, Ted Kennedy & Tom Harkin, DNC chair Terry McAwlful, James Carvile, Paul Begala, Cong. Barney Frank, Sid Vicious Blumenthal, Moveon.org and others at various events, and

- ANSWER, Code Pink, and other left-wing protests against America defending itself.

After-Action Report of DC Chapter FReep of White House Correspondents Assoc Dinner
May 2, 2004 | BillF

The D.C. Chapter's Sixth Annual FReep of the White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) Dinner took place on Saturday afternoon and evening. Our gathering of eagles included: Angelwood, Kristinn, Staytrue, tgslTakoma, GunsAreOK, Cobol2Java & his wife, Pippin, BufordP, Mudboy Slim, Sauropod, L_Von_Mises, and BillF.

Speaking truth to the power that is the press, FReepers adopted the theme that the media's overly pessimistic coverage of Iraq is getting our troops killed. The media distortions are causing others, both friends and foes of the U.S., to question our resolve.

Although the theme of the evening was quite serious, we had a blast gently chiding the liberals and giving kudos to some of the good guys in the press. We received a more positive response from people passing by than more would expect, considering that the location was one of the most liberal areas in one of the most liberal cities in the country.

Here is what I was able to pull out of the tape. Portions of my tape we could not hear clearly what was being said. The part of the transcript with tgsltakoma includes her comments/corrections

A=Angelwood B=Barrymore K=Kristinn Bu= BufordP S=Sauropod T=Tgsltakoma D: Drew Barrymore

I've added/corrected from my recollection, to your transcript below.

D: Did you make all the signs? (I recall that I said another guy made the signs and that I made the "awards")

T confirms.

LOL! I remember once when Ann Coulter came home to Greenwich, CT to speak at a dinner. There were about 20 FReepers there and when we took a group photo with her, we did the "Cop's Cheer." Ann laughed like hell and said, "You guys are too much!"

That was the Greenwich Horseneck Republican group, right? We were there too, with the "famous" RaceBannon, who held up the microphone for Ann during her entire speech!

He's still swooning! ;-)

Wow, chanting the Cops Cheer for Drew Barrymore... You guys rock! It'll be interesting to see how Drew covers the DC Chapter (and conservatives in general) in her documentary.

One of my favorite FReeps with the DC Chapter was shouting the Cops Cheer at Klintoon himself, who was up in the White House signing pardons on his last night in office. It was fun, but I kept thinking what a great country this is where we can freely do something like that! :-)
