Reaching People (Inside the Beltway) -- Free Republic, "Cops's Cheer" Mentioned
The Washington Times/Inside the Beltway ^ | Thursday, May 6, 2004 | John McCaslin

Actress Drew Barrymore is filming a documentary aimed at persuading young people to vote. She recently happened upon members of the D.C. chapter of FreeRepublic.com, the conservative grass-roots network, as they conducted a Washington protest.

"Can I ask you guys a question?" Miss Barrymore said. "You come out and you protest. Do you feel that it makes a difference? Do you feel that you reach people?"

Group leader Kristinn Taylor answered: "We used to do this down at the White House every Saturday for a couple years when Bill Clinton was there. It goes like this" — and here Mr. Taylor turned to his fellow Freepers, to have them join in the chant. "You guys ready? One, two, three: 'Bill Clinton, we have you surrounded! Drop the cigar, step away from the intern, and come out with your pants up.' "

"Wow," said the actress.

"The first time we did that," Mr. Taylor said, "the Secret Service officer who was working the gate started laughing so hard he doubled over and walked behind the guard shack to compose himself."

I'm just amazed to learn that there is a D.C. Chapter

You'd be surprised to know where FR Chapters exist. We even have one on the left side of The Peoples' Soviet of Washington (a.k.a The EvergreeD State). I believe we may even have members in Seattle (Sodom on the Sound) itself. (You can see a few in action here).

ah...for old times.! One of the funniest protest responses EVER! No wonder Drew said 'Wow.' She realizes greatness in her midst when she hears it.

KRISTEN GORE: The crowds that were screaming outside our house, you know, "Get out of Cheney's house." And other things … of that nature, were really upsetting. It was difficult … It was just very … upsetting that someone would … yell those things at us. It felt … we felt sort of like … trapped in this … you know, little house with all these people yelling mean things. It's no fun. You know, whether you're a child of the person who they're directed at, or anyone else. It … it wasn't a good situation.

This is the "little house" to which she refers.

I'm surprised to read that Drew Barrymore was nice to Freepers. She and her Charlie's Angels co-stars were quite vocal in their anti-Bush sentiments.

My favorite memory was the way you taunted White House reporters. " FOX Rules, CNN Drools ".
The best one was when you yelled at Wolf Blitzer. "Hey cameraman , pan the camera down so they
can see Hillary's hand up Wolf's ass working his jaw!" Of course, In the sprit of rewriting history and
the unperson's of "1984" , the so called paper of record , the New York Times, even ran an editorial
claiming nobody was protesting the Xlintoon White House, unlike the Nixon White House during
Watergate.

Thanks for reviving some memories. I did take part in your first example -- abner even made up a banner for us that said FOX Rules, CNN Drools -- boy, did that tick off Wolfie.

Doctor Raoul is actually the author of the second example. He also was responsible for the protest sign on yellow posterboard, "Former 'Washington Post' Reporter Will Work for Food." CommiesOut (may he rest in peace, we miss him) made up an image which I used for a button with Wolfie Blitzer in a Tuxedo (he was on his way to the WH Press Correspondents Dinner) and under his arm was that yellow sign "Will Work for Food." Wolfie has one of the buttons I had made up for the fun of it!

The December 6, 1998 article on the front page of the New York Times (above the fold) claiming there were no protesters outside the White House was so outrageous that my husband signed me up to Free Republic so I could start posting. Marylander came to DC that week and we both stood outside the New York Times Washington, DC headquarters to protest their article. Marylander asked every male entering the building if he was the author. We must have hit a few nerves because someone in the building lobbed a few raw eggs in our direction.

So, thanks for the memories.
