SAN BERNARDINO - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry pledged Thursday to channel $30 billion over 10 years to improve teacher pay as well as raise teaching standards, including bonuses of up to $5,000 for those who teach math and science or work in high-need schools.
The program would tap a $200 billion education trust fund established with money from the repeal of President Bushs tax breaks for those earning more than $200,000 a year, the Kerry campaign said.

Well maybe he's hoping for a close shave with Bush.

Add Nader into the mix and we're looking at a possible three-way.

Equal pay to teachers working in the war zones of Memphis and Nashville, but especially Memphis which is #2 in violent crime in the US.

It all started when the Federal Government started running the skool system instead of the States!
Wasn't it Jimbo Carter who made the Education Dept. --- Cabinet level??

Kerry said he wanted to recruit or retain 500,000 teachers during his first term in the White House. He also said he would provide tuition assistance to college students who agree to teach in high-demand areas. Schools that boost student achievement or make other improvements would receive up to $500,000 under the plan. Once again, Kerry's math doesn't add up. 500,000 new teachers, at anywhere from $50K to $100K including bennies, comes to $25 billion to $50 billion PER YEAR. How is he going to fit that into his $30 billion over ten years?
Seems that he needs to talk to a math teacher himself.

I was at a friends house last saturday, his wife is a teacher. Well, there was quite a few couples there where the wife is a teacher and the husbands are engineers. One of the husbands was talking about property taxes and I told him to quit complaining about them. He looked at me crazy and I quickly followed up with "It's for da chilrun, don't ya know!" Well, it was like I kicked a hornets nest with all the teachers. Not one of them could successfully defend their positions.
The only question I have to ask is, "why has the student performance continued to decline, while at the same time spending has increased?"

It seems that the more money we throw at the schools the more stupid the kids become.
