[history]
A push by Senate Democrats to extend jobless benefits lost by a single vote yesterday - as their nominee-to-be, John Kerry, missed the vote while campaigning in Kentucky.
Kerry, the only senator to miss the vote, said he didn't come back to Washington because "we were told that no matter what would happen, [the Republicans] would change a vote in the Senate and they were not going to let it happen."

I know this has been posted in differing variations. However, thought everyone would love Al-Kerry's logic in missing the vote. Nice job -- campaign in Kentucky, where you have no chance of winning instead of showing up to work.
I can see the Bush campaign commercial now.

If Kerry was right, and it was rigged, he just got owned hardcore by the GOP on that.. way to very publicly disappoint major parts of his constituency!

By this point in J'Effin's campaign, I'm betting his staff is calling ahead to each new town's dogcatcher to keep up a fresh supply pooches to screw.

Just a personal anecdote. Ran into a secretary from my old law firm. She had gotten laid off about 18 months ago. Only recently returned to work. Her brother recruits at another law firm and immediately offerd her a job. But she explained that because "this was after 9-11," unemployment got extended so much she stayed out of work for a year. Went on two cruises and numerous other vacations. Got a job the minute unemploynment ran out. Very nice lady, but perhaps an example of abuse of the system?

I agree that it doesnt need extended, IMO one of the reasons why we are having larger job gains is because the people who have been getting paid for free have stopped receiving and are now getting work. But as far as a campaign commercial goes this would be a good one.

There are going to be books written for years on how not to run a campaign about Yaaaaawn's blunders!! If he were a Pub he would be the laughingstock of DC. Having him missing votes is good for America. Unemployment bill when you are adding 250,000 jobs a month????

To show you just where Kerry's priorities lie, remember that he took time out of his busy schedule to vote for two gun control amendments to the Senate gun industry lawsuit immunity bill, namely, extending the sport-utility rifle ban and revoking firearms-transaction privacy for non-dealers at gun shows.

Well it is very understandable. He can't go to work. After all John F'N had to campaigne in Kentucky because the election is imminent and there is a big primary vote coming in just----er. Well the national election is a mere....er. Sorry, nevermind.

Bush and Co just removed another Kerry campaign issue. I know it is easy to get blinders on and just see what you want. However, I truly think Kerry is one of the worst candidates of the last 25 years or so.

He is pretty darn stupid. If he shows up and the issue fails -- like he claims it would have -- he would have been able to finger the Republicans for not caring about the poor, working class unemployed to pander to a dim core consituency.
Now, he ends up losing that issue and the Bushies can run a nice campaign commercial about how Kerry says one thing and does another, undermining his credibility once again.
To: GAGOPSWEEPTOVICTORY
Kerry should be really proud of himself. I wonder how labor unions like this latest "no show" non-vote. I can't believe the Democratic leadership is allowing him to act so irresponsibly. All we need now is for Kerry to name John Edwards, North Carolina's own AWOL senator as his running mate. Two no-show, non-voting senators asking us for our votes. Bwahhaaaaahhhhaaaaa!!
To: gswilder
I think Kerry talks about his Vietnam record so much because he has accomplished absolutely nothing in nearly three decades in the Senate.

To: GAGOPSWEEPTOVICTORY
Well the reality is, like it or not Kerry's probably right, had he been in town 1 or more Rs would have changed their votes.
Since he didn't show they make sure its a 59 to 40, so that politics can be played with the vote tally to make Kerry look bad.
Playing politics happens on both sides of the Isle folks.
