What a slap to Howie!

Think of Barnicle's predicament. He has to come groveling to a paper he's spent most of his professional career looking down his nose at. I always thought Barnicle's best stories were obvious fabrications. I was wrong, some were plagiarized. What does that say about the Globe's editorial oversight?

We know that the Herald has significantly higher readership on the days when Howie's column appears. Barnicle is in the other days. Wonder if he'll close the gap? I rather doubt it.

According to most figures I've seen, newspapers actually lose money on subscriptions and print sales. If you really want to get their attention, you have to go after their advertisers.

Advertisers depend on circulation They lose circulation they lose advertising $$$$ And they may lose on sales but nothing wrong with increasing that loss

My question about Barnicle is: What does he know about whom? This guy must have the goods on some powerful people. His plagerism and creative writing at the Globe were not just a few times but was systematic and common. By all that it is holy he should never have been heard from again and simply faded away into shame and oblivion. And yet- almost immediately he is on the radio after Imus (whom he routinely plagerizes from still!) Then he was at the Daily News in NY! Uhh why? Now he is at the Herald? Who does this guy know? Does he know where some bodies are buried? He is a total waste of a writer and a finger in the wind opportunist. He was so very pro war a year ago- name calling against all those who oppossed the war with glee- now he is anti war and name calling all those who support the war. The man makes me want to vomit.

"Fortunately, we saw (and heard) the footage on Fox News."

In fairness, CNN carried it as well, and NBC ran it on the Nightly News.

Barnicle peddles this lame "street kid from Lincoln" act that makes the bow-tied bum kissers on Morrisey Blvd. feel like they have an "authentic" Bostonian instead of all the Noo Yawk imports they hire out of Haavaad. He has an easy style that appeals to the intellectually lazy and the credulous, in other words the vast majority any paper's readership.

He got caught out when Readers' Digest wanted to reprint one of his Globe articles. The RD fact checkers asked to see his notes, and he couldn't produce any, so they declined to print it, which caught the attention of Globe editors. It soon became apparent that his story was a fabrication, a fact that the slightest fact checking (use the telephone book!) would have established. He was put on probation, and when he plagiarized Mike Royko, the Globe was so embarrassed that even they had to let him go. He's really just a sappy fabulist, a more sentimental version of O. Henry.

I agree- but I am just at a loss as to how this guy still has a media career at all?

The media just doesn't get it. They're blinded by their partisanship.

But to increase that loss wouldn't we have to buy MORE papers? :<0

Gee hope CBS news covered this. Since I hold them personally responsible for causing this country and it's troops damage that can not be measured

Not to minimize one soldier's death, but I think the mess with the prison "abuse" scandal is no more than a black eye in the long run. I'd personally like to see Dan Rather and the rest of the CBS "news" team haunted in their dreams by the ghosts of every soldier who might not have died otherwise. But we will get through this WOT in the end and Al Quaeda will be just as dead.

Shalom.

I can't get over the fact that practically all of Massachusetts, and about half of the rest of the country, are dumbass Democrats.

Most of the country doesn't give any more thought to how things out to be than it takes to watch an episode of "Friends."

"March of the Morons" R us.

Shalom.

and then act all surprised over their sick tyrannical decisions like this latest gay marriagge thing. At least they are trying to fight it now.

From where I sit in PA, it appears they are trying to pretend to fight it in such a way as to let the SJC take the blame.

If they really didn't want "gay marriage" to become legal on Monday, all they would have to do is pass a referendum declaring that the SJC had overstepped its bounds by creating a law, and that their ruling would not be enforced. Demand a new ruling. Let the governer issue a statement to the same effect. If the court does not reconsider - impeach them all.

It is not an abuse of power for two branches of government to disagree with the third. It's a "check and balances" thing.

But even our President, whom I mostly like, has the chutzpah to stand against certain social agendas (CFR), and will use SCOTUS as his excuse. So it isn't surprising that MA politicians will do the same with the "gay agenda."

Shalom.

OK then. Kevin McHale! Don't forget Kevin McHale! (although he is technically, in Jesse's pronounciation, a Minne-SOAT-an)

Not technically .. McHale is actually a Minnesotan, from Hibbing. Another native who is back in his home state :)

Your Patton coment is timely.
Can you see today's press in WWII? They would have demanded Patton's removal.

While I apologize for my tone in previous posts, you have to admit that being the first state to legalize gay marriage doesn't help your argument about how conservative Massachusetts...
