I appreciate the work many here put in to dig out a story, but in this case I'm feeling a little uncomfortable with of a lot of the posts that seem to fall into the 'what if' category regarding Nick Berg. If someone can actually tie him to a lot of this stuff, fine. I guess I just hope that all the worst motives won't automatically be assigned to him because of his father's politics.

No matter where he stood on the political spectrum, he did not deserve that fate at the hands of our enemies and for those agonizing over the name of his business, myth says Promethius rebelled against his father and brought higher knowledge to a backward mankind. Though it's possible there were long strings of deeper meaning to it as pondered in other threads, perhaps it was just the bringing of technology to the Iraqis that inspired the name. For all we know, it could have been symbolic of some rebellion from his own father as well. We'll no doubt find out more soon.

Like I said, the search for truth is always a good thing and presenting the facts can't ever be faulted, but I guess I personally have no stomach right now for dragging this young man and his life through speculative flights of fancy which seem focused on placing him at odds with us. It just seems to deflect attention from the horrible violent end he suffered at the hands of our enemy.

Timely post and well-stated, Route66.

"For all we know, it could have been symbolic of some rebellion from his own father as well."

And he could have been harboring deep and hidden resentment towards him because of political differences. Maybe enough to cause him to enter the spy game on his own, feigning acceptance of his father's political philosophy to gather information and contacts. Who knows where this could have led? This is not beyond the realm of possibility.
