WASHINGTON -- President Bush is facing sharp dissent from his conservative base about the war in Iraq that could force him to change course or risk losing critical support for his re-election campaign.
The complaints are rising from the traditional conservative wing of the Republican Party -- including such influential voices as Rep. Henry Hyde of Illinois and columnist George Will -- who are challenging the "neoconservative" doctrine that the United States can remake the Middle East by toppling dictator Saddam Hussein and nurturing a democracy to replace him.

I totally, without reservation, respect Rep. Henry Hyde. I don't think the quotes attributed to him back up the author's assertions here.
Pres. Bush has been saying all along that it's the people of Iraq that will determine Iraq's future.
As long as nothing but corrupt regimes continue to exist in the Middle East, the US will always bear the brunt of the disaffected populations. We need create a place where the rule of law exists (even in a rudimentary fashion) right in their midst. Iraq was the best place to start.
Short list.
This looks like wishful thinking on the part of the Newark Star-Ledger, nothing more.
95% support, yet this author sees a story in there somewhere? LOL
The libs wish this were true. Frankly, I cannot see any conservative having an anger at Bush remotely deep enough to make him or her either vote for Kerry or not vote at all. This election is too important, and I think ALL conservatives agree on that.
BTTT!!!!!!
Agreed. I will vote and I will not vote for Kerry. That statement is true
A "Patsie's" wet dream.
Well, all one has to do is read FR and they'd be left with the belief that Bush only has support from 50% of his base if even that much.
Don't look - it's porn - of the 3M nature: Media Mentally Masterbating.
Yeah, and I can give you some of their FR screen names!
masterbating = masturbating.
All said, Rove overlooks the borders/amnesty and the AWB at Bush's peril. Oh, btw, Kerry won't be the next president.
The Moby bridages' conservative vote suppression stories are coming out right on schedule.
Like I'm going to vote for John F'ing Kerry.
Give me a break.
That's okay. There are plenty of us disaffected Dems who'll be more than happy to vote for the president. Again :)
LOL. Yeah - and half of them are sleeper trolls. The other half think they are the only TRUE conservatives.
1] Mission Accomplished - Bush went to Iraq to check out WMD.
2] Mission Accomplished - Bush went to Iraq to end Saddam.
3] Mission Creep - Bush did a Kerry flip-flop on nation building to create democratic country that is friendly to the USA.
Bush should have listened to himself. He should have quit when we were ahead. Number 3 had a better chance then.
"True Conservatives for Kerry"
I'm glad you corrected the spelling; I didn't know what you were talking about. ;-)
