Gee -- Justice David Souter wouldn't have had much of an opinion on this issue anyway...

I certainly don't agree with gay marriage, but I'm not sure there's anything in the Constitution that prohibits it.

That's why we need a Constitutional ban on gay marriage.

As it should be. The Supreme Court should have NO jurisdiction in how a state issues licenses.

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to intervene in the same-sex marriages law in Mass. Truly a sad day for America.

The U.S. Supreme Court has absolutely zero jurisdiction to review a decision of the Supreme Court of Massachusetts based solely on the Massachusetts Constitution. That's why not even Scalia or Rehnquist voted to intervene.

If Muslims ruled we wouldn't have gay marriage. Seems to me we are fighting in Iraq to insure gay people have the freedom to get married. Maybe we will lose the war on terrorism.

WOW! Anthony Lewis, Margaret Marshall and the New York Times (mother of the pornographic Boston Globe)
are the Fourth branch of American government, after all.

Unelected Judges just wiped out a 1000 years of human practice and culture and REDIFINED a WORD that now has NO MEANING whatsoever.

We've given up. We've lost.

We're being ruled instead of governed.

Enjoy.

Wish some of those old farts would retire.

Forget the marriage amendment....just amend the constitution to where SCOTUS is an elected position with 2@ 6 year terms.

There should not be a need for the United States Supreme Court in this instance. The Massachusetts Legislature already has all the tools that it needs to correct the situation. Article XXX of the Massachutsetts constitution forbids one branch of state government from interferinfg with the perogatives of the other. The Mass. Supreme court, in ordering the legislature to pass this law, has itself committed a blatently unconstitutional act. The executive powers of the state, in fulfilling their duty to honestly interpet the constitution themselves, should uphold their oaths and refuse to issue the licenses. The legislature should then impeach and remove these judges.

The Mass legislature , as a body has surrendered in this case, to a faux principle of adherence to a spurious rule of law and pusinaimouslly deferred to this lawless court. We are not living under the rule of law when an oligharcic robed elite conjure law up, and our elected officials bow in fealty.

THE ANSWER:
"When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:13-14

Friends, if you're reading FR, you're probably somewhat engaged in your community. You vote and contribute and participate as much as you can in your family, worship center--synagouge or church, and you likely support the conservative politician(s) in your district. If you don't do any of these, you should!

But many of us have been as busy as Martha and have not been attentive like Mary...Now is the time to remember to humble ourselves and do the sometimes hard work of looking to God. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the "heavy lifting" of activism, we forget our spirit. I know I do. We need to spend some time seeking His face. He is in control, let us never forget.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
