I have a way around the scanners when my wife is working dispatch. I call her cell phone from my cell phone. No radio traffic. The officers have cell phones too. CDMA cell phones can't be picked up on a scanner. The cell phone dispatches are logged into the CAD system. Fairly secure. San Diego Sheriff's Dept installed mobile data terminals in the cars. Dispatch is done digitally. Nothing for the bad guys to hear.

I don't want to scare you...but it can't be heard on a Uniden or other scanner availabe in the store. But I wouldn't be trading National Secrets with your wife, as CDMA has been hacked and monitored.
