TALEQUAH, Okla. -- Cherokee Nation officials are scrambling to clarify their marriage laws after a lesbian couple obtained an application for marriage.
Principal Chief Chad Smith says officials are looking into defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
This comes after a lesbian couple from Tulsa obtained an application for marriage from the tribal clerk's office.
The application is not valid until the person who performs the ceremony signs it and the couple return it to the tribal court.
Cherokee officials are trying to figure out if the same-sex marriage is sanctioned because the women received an application, or if they can throw it out if the women bring it back after the ceremony.
Oklahoma does not recognize same-sex marriages.
Who knew that gay Indian in the Village People would be such a trend setter?
The liberal agenda, coming soon to a wigwam near you.
ROTFL... ya mean like the "Native American Church"? The one that any indian can join, and legally use peyote even if their peoples never used peyeote? (I mean, how easy is Peyote to find in the Adirondacks???)
Yep that church... Church of the Holy Shroom.
Also in the news: The Cherokee Nation has officially declared that grass is green and that the sky is blue.
"We never thought it needed to be said," explained an official spokesman, "but there's just no telling what these stupid white people are going to try next."
Took away our native tongue
And taught perversion to our young ...
So proud to live
So proud to die...
Sorry, couldn't help it.
"So Proud ..."
Have you sent that suggestion to RNC?
Of course. :0)
