Short Told Police She Felt 'Pinch' While Leaving Rockies Game
DENVER -- The case of a woman who died about two weeks after she was pricked while leaving a baseball game at Coors Field has been turned over to a homicide detective, police said.
Nancy Short, 69, of Centennial died Friday. She was pricked with an unknown object April 28, police spokeswoman Virginia Lopez said.
"Whether it was intentional or unintentional, she did receive an injury which led to an infection that led to her death," Lopez said.
Short had told police that she was walking through a crowd while she was leaving a Colorado Rockies game when she felt a "pinch" on her left buttock. Minutes later, she discovered she was bleeding.
Several days later Short was taken to Centura Littleton Adventist Hospital, where she died, Lopez said.
Investigators have determined that Short was not injected with any drug or chemical, Lopez said. She did, however, have a pre-existing medical condition that weakened her immune system. Lopez declined to provide other medical details.
Short's family could not be reached for comment.
Rockies spokesman Jay Alves said there have not been any similar cases reported at the ballpark.
This flawed story is way too short on details, even apart from the pun-generating headline.
ricin?
Crunch 'n' Munch.
A.I.D.S.?
(Compromised immune system...)
Reminiscent of the murder of Georgi Markov with an umbrella using a ricin pellet in London.
Investigators have determined that Short was not injected with any drug or chemical
Two weeks is too long for ricin.
Testosterone injection?
My daughter's immune system is compromised from her rheumatoid arthritis.
Clinton???
"A.I.D.S.?
(Compromised immune system...)"
Not necessarily, or even the most likely cause. A compromised immune system can come from cancer chemotherapy, steroid therapy for arthritis (growing more popular all the time)or other steroid therapy, several diseases, and a host of other medical reasons.
There's no reason to assume AIDS in this case.
That's right. Poisoning by small puncture was a KGB calling card. Is it still an SVR calling card?
Were they playing the Diamondbacks?
Was is it with this stadium? They killed a fan last year when the escalator stopped.
Probably depends on the dosage. There was a show on Discovery Health Channel last night (Diagnosis Unknown) about a guy who was poisoned with ricin by his wife over a period of about six months. He lived (barely), but his life was pure hell over that time (in and out of the hospital and in agony). She ended up burning down the house and killing two of their three kids.
I don't know. The SVR hasn't called on me... I think.
That's quite a prick!
Boy, he picked the wrong girl to propose to!
"Investigators have determined that Short was not injected with any drug or chemical"
That makes sense. She got an infection and couldn't fight it off due to her compromised immune system. Pretty reasonable sounding to me. It took some time for the infection to develop. A poisoning would have taken effect more quickly.
This could just be an accident, and probably is just that. She got poked with something sharp, the wound got infected, and she died. End of story.
Everything is not a conspiracy.
