A Modest Proposal - Attack Kerry the Michael Moore Way
BoloBaby | 5/22/04 | BoloBaby

(If you want to help make a difference, read the entire piece!)

Michael Moore's political hit-piece, Farenheit 911, has set an alarming precedent in America. Months before an election, Moore will use his film in an effort to sway the masses and influence the election. Whereas Americans used to be able to expect thinly veiled attacks against conservatives and conservative values in their entertainment, Farenheit 911 brings liberal vitriol straight to the surface, blatant and unmasked.

I can understand using movies for entertainment or documentary purposes, but Moore's film is neither. By all accounts, it is a one-sided attack on President Bush and his policies. Propaganda films of this nature were frequently employed by Nazis and communists.

This film is a political GIFT to John Kerry's campaign. Honestly, I'm surprised that this doesn't fall under the category of "campaign contribution." If it did, foes of this despicable tactic could file an injunction against Miramax and Moore under the Campaign Finance Reform laws. That might put an end to future films that attempt to influence an election in this manner.

Is this the precedent we want set in our country? Are Americans truly ready for the pre-election season to be filled with political propaganda films? Perhaps the chorus of voices condemning this tactic aren't loud enough simply because it is a conservative that is being attacked. What would happen if a liberal fell victim to the same type of attack?

Since there is no immediate remedy to this problem, I recommend fighting fire with fire. The time has come for conservatives to create their own film that targets Kerry's questionable past. Once the film is complete, you can guarantee that liberals everywhere will widely condemn it as a "vicious attack" that "crosses the line."

Fine. So be it. The louder the criticism of our film, the more we will be able to point the finger at the real culprit... the man who began it all... Michael Moore.

But how can we possibly put together a feature length film on such short notice? Do we even have the budget or manpower to create such a film?

I don't. My filmmaking partner doesn't.

FreeRepublic - the community - DOES.

In order to accomplish our mission, I am going to propose a new paradigm in filmmaking - a collaborative effort that employs the skills of an entire community so that a film can be made quickly and with minimal cost.

This is where YOU come in.

Rather than spend thousands upon thousands on travel, equipment, and manpower, we are hoping that individuals within the FreeRepublic community will step forward and donate their time to complete this project. Does the doctor that treated John Kerry's Vietnam wounds live within driving distance? Do you have access to a video camera? If yes, then YOU can be the interviewer for our documentary.

As the producers and editors of the film, we will be setting specific directional goals, but we will be relying on the community of concerned conservatives to help complete the project. We hope to receive enough footage (which we will subsequently check for accuracy) to create a masterwork film that is 100% factually accurate - a true documentary... unlike Moore's fantasies.

The goal of the film will be to investigate John Kerry's fitness to be commander-in-chief. To that end, we will be looking at the following:

1. John Kerry's service record 2. His actions after the war 3. His voting record in regards to military matters 4. The sentiment of American soldiers towards John Kerry 5. His consistency on matters concerning national defense 6. His truthfulness

...and anything else that may show itself to be relevant.

We want to make this happen, but WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you are willing and able to participate, Freepmail me with information regarding the region in which you live, the equipment you have access to, and your areas of expertise.

Over the next week or so, we will be compiling a list of interviews that we would like conducted as well as questions that we would like asked. WE ARE OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS, but we cannot guarantee that all suggestions will be used and that all footage will be accepted. You are free to submit any material you like, but there will be certain interview questions that we will provide to the volunteers that will be conducting the interviews.

We will have all of the details worked out in short order. Please be patient while we organize the volunteers.

Thanks for taking the time to read this proposal. With your help, we will hopefully be able to create such a powerful and truthful film that liberals everywhere will call for an end to such political films in the months leading up to an election.

Moore's film is not going to change anyones mind. His films are hardly blockbusters. All the Bush hating partisan dems and assorted Naderites will flock to this film- thats it. He will make some good money off this film. But your average theater goer isn't going to just pop in to see a "ducumentary".

Let us know where we can donate $ money for the project! 20 here, 20 there will add up to a good sum if FReeper agree to venture into the film! What do you think fellow mates??

I agree, but have some additional points to make...

1. Regardless of whether or not it changes anyone's mind, movies of this type are still a bad thing. The only way to show "them" that is to make one of our own.

2. Whether or not people go to see the Farenheit 911, the accusations that are made within the movie will be parroted across the entire country - by liberals and media outlets (redundant, I know). The average Joe will hear these accusations and many will be inclined to believe them without doing any fact checking for themselves. It's a sad truth.

For now, I would be against taking monetary donations. I would much prefer that Freepers volunteer their time and expertise. My filmmaking partner and I aren't in this for money. Cash donations would only complicate matters needlessly.

In the future, when the film is complete, if we are *this close* to getting it distributed, but need "X" dollars to make it happen... well... then we might *think* about donations. That would probably be the only instance when we would even consider it.

Great concept, but what if the Dems pull a switcheroo at the convention?

If it were my money, I'd wait until it's official, then rush to film the interviews, Freepers know all the players who could speak to your crew, it could come together very fast. You should solicit funds for a film revealing the final Nominee and his chosen VP.

Other than that, I like how you think. Engage the enemy within!

Frank Rich had a largely lauditory review of Moore's film today. But even Rich- no Bush fan- said that the weakest part of the movie were the cheap shots at Bush and going over worn out old scandal stories. Rich said the more powerful parts of the film were the ones that didn't have Moore in them at all but was footage given to him from Iraq showing an actual American combat death, the killing of Iraqi civilians by American troops, Angry wounded troops in hospitals, and a formerly conservative pro war mother reading her son's last letter home before he died in which he slams Bush for sending him there.

The anti Bush rhetoric in the movie is just standard and nothing that the media is going to get interested in. But some of those segments I mentioned could be damaging.

You actually honor Moore by giving him the label of "enemy." He is so pathetic as to not even be worth hating. I pity him.

Absolutely. When you send hundreds of thousand of soldiers overseas into a combat zone, there are bound to be a few who don't want to be there. There are bound to be some that disagree with Bush politically. There are bound to be some that make mistakes and kill Iraqi civilians. There are bound to be some that commit crimes when interrogating prisoners.

It is sad that these segments will be damaging. I'm sure crime rates in urban communities back in the U.S. where hundreds of thousands of low-income citizens live aren't anything to write home about either.

These are the facts of life. We have good citizens and we have bad citizens. We have good soliders and we have bad soldiers. Fortunately, the overwhelming majority of soldiers in Iraq today fall into the former category.

I think your idea of doing a documentary on Kerry is fantastic.......pinging some creative FReepers who might like to help.

Someone is making a film on Moore. I hope it comes out before the November election.

Excerpt:
"The simple truth about Michael Moore is that this self-righteous critic of corporate America is one of its most bloated beneficiaries. It is time someone made a film about him - and, we are pleased to report, someone is. Forget Fahrenheit 9/11: later this year, a young film-maker called Mike Wilson will unveil a documentary entitled Michael Moore Hates America, in which the self-proclaimed "slob in a baseball cap" will find his techniques turned on himself. Don't miss it."

something like this could be said about kerry's military service:

It appears that sources close to high level officials in MediVac (or whatever) have made statements that say at least one, and perhaps as many as two of Kerry's 'wounds' for which the DEMOCRAT presidential candidate received a Medal of Honor Citation appears to have been self-inflicted.

Just a thought on how a 'Moore-like' attack piece might go.
