Kings Bay Naval Base Locked Down
POSTED: 6:18 pm EDT May 21, 2004
KINGS BAY, Ga. -- A security alert at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base led to a nearly 3-hour lockdown Friday morning when two foreign nationals attempted to get on the base.
Officials said two men, who were contracted by an Atlanta-based moving company, came to the base to help someone move. One of the men could not produce proper identification.
Then, a search dog alerted guards to a briefcase in the truck.
The guards called in the bomb squad and the base went into lockdown.
Though the briefcase did not contain any explosives, the two men were handed over to immigration officials.
The FBI is still investigating the incident.
Yipes! Im sure it was just an illegal worker, but you DONT want to be involved in a lockdown on a nuclear sub base!
Those marines get real serious real fast
The Marines are sure some tough dudes.
Semper Fi.
I just decided to search Google News for any new articles on this.

Suspicious moving van prompt Kings Bay lockdown
Associated Press
ST. MARYS, Ga. - Military officials locked down Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base for security reasons after two men were detained for questioning.
Two Israeli men working for a moving-and-storage company attempted to enter the base about 10:30 a.m. Friday to pick up some items in base housing, said base spokesman Ed Buczek.
One of them was unable to provide security personnel with proper credentials, so base personnel and bomb-sniffing dogs inspected the van.
"The military dogs were alerted to a scent in the cab of the truck," Buczek said. "Guards closed access to the base and notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service."
St. Marys police closed access to an area one-half mile surrounding the base and called in a bomb squad, Buczek said.
Nothing was found in the van, but both men, whose names were not released, were later taken into custody by federal immigration officers for possible deportation, he said.
Kings Bay is near Sea Island, which will host the G-8 Summit next month.

Excellent, I wish the US border patrol would work like this.
those dogs didn't bark at the foreign nationals did they? because that would be really serious, the media might have to run with that story for several days - we can't have dogs barking and growling at people.
Here is another article on it I found.

I hear you.
Our Border Patrol is undermanned and under-equipped to deal with what they have to deal with.
LOL.
A good dog always is very wary of strangers.
If they are not, then they are not fit for guarding.
Strange coincidence perhaps? http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1132457/posts
I read about that.
Whatever happened to the two that were arrested on that?
And there is no such thing as a warning shot.
Lock and load is just a precursor! ; )
I know
That is what the news articles I found at Google News says.
I thought it was Arabs or Muslims of some stripe.
It was stunning to see that they were Israeli.
Lethal force is ALWAYS authorized to protect nuclear weapons or reactors.
Without clearance, NO ONE approaches an SSBN. When I was there, I got to go onboard the TENNESSEE. Both gangplanks had armed Sailors and marines guarding them, and armed Marines patrolling the quay.
A higher entity is chosen to sort them out.
The USMC is our nation's best deterrent.
The Nazis did not call them Devil Dogs for nothing.
The Nazis and the Imperial Japanese feared the Marines very intensely.
i had anticipated some fellow named rodriguez,
this is interesting
