Dems About to Sue Catholic Church?
Fox News | 5/23/04

Posted on 05/23/2004 10:09:08 AM PDT by pabianice

On today's Fox News appeared a Democrat Congressman from Texas, scolding the Catholic Church for denying Communion to politicians who publically demand the right to support abortion on demand at the same time they demand the church allow them to participate as Catholics.

Unspoken but clearly implied was the threat that if the Church denies their demand, these Liberals are prepared to take the Catholic Church to court to force it to do their bidding.

This raises several questions. Will they? (I believe they will). When? What chance does such a suit have to be heard in federal court? Would the current Supreme Court hear an appeal and uphold the Liberals (I believe yes). And what would this mean for other religions in the US?

This would be great. I'd love to see the extremism of the left exposed like this.

Please, let this be true. The Dims do nothing but declare open warfare on everything that is decent in life. I hope that everyone gets a taste of how those people operate.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. The government CANNOT compel a religion to act as the government wishes. THAT is the point of the "separation of church and state."

Why is it that the Lie-berals believe they can keep the church out of the state (ie, no nativity scenes much less prayer in school) and yet believe they can keep the state in the church?

They won't challenge Islam, but they will declare war on the Catholic church.

Does divorce on demand and the resulting solution i.e. The Church of England ring a bell? Who has a good name for the abortion church?

There would be no juridiction for any court to consider whether the Court can be forced to give Communion to anyone.

I love the hysteria because what priest publically is going to deny a communicant the ability to receive? If you don't like the rules find a new house to play religion in!

How heartwarming it is to see that our elected officials can take a few minutes out of their Bush bashing day, and attack the Catholic Church.

I wish they'd start excommunicating the likes of Kerry, Pelosi, and especially Kennedy.

Incorrect. All US churches are incorporated in the federal court districts/states as non-profit organizations.

Liberal courts legislate the morality in the country. Constitution be damned.

So much for the liberal-valued "separation" of church and state.

U-huh. This Supreme Court found it constitutional to deny the First Amendment to political speech.

I would guess that the dems are after the church's tax exempt status.
