'Day After Tomorrow': A lot of hot air
USAToday ^ | 05/24/04 | Patrick J. Michaels

As a scientist, I bristle when lies dressed up as "science" are used to influence political discourse. The latest example is the global-warming disaster flick, The Day After Tomorrow.

This film is propaganda designed to shift the policy of this nation on climate change. At least that's what I take from producer Mark Gordon's comment that "part of the reason we made this movie" was to "raise consciousness about the environment."

Good to see this coming out of the Cato Institute since they tend toward liberal ideas.

Good review. I hope the movie is as bad as it sounds. I didn't realize Art Bell was a co-author of the book it's based on.

"Oh, if only we'd listened to Art Bell while we still had the chance!"

Al Gore is touting a movie based on a story by Art Bell?!? LOL! My favorite part of the article was this: "In Strieber's previous work, Communion, he explained that he was told of the Earth's upcoming apocalypse by aliens. And how this knowledge was communicated is much more the purview of an adult Web site than a family newspaper." LOL!

I'm sure Mark Gordon made "Speed" to raise consciousness about the dangers of driving busses too slow in Los Angeles.

LOL!! I was just comparing Michael Moore to Art Bell the other day (called him the 'Art Bell of the Left).

it's a cheezy popcorn B-movie dressed up in whiz-bang CGI.
get buzzed first and bring a date and laugh yourselves silly - at least, that's what I thought this movie was for.

The funniest thing is these lefties hate Fox News. Yet they are promoting a film by the owner of Fox. Do these people know what they are doing.

Right when I am about to market my ocean-front Indiana property, they tell me all this stuff is not true. ...

I just want FNC to tell the whole story about where this book came from and relate how algore is behind this nonsense that was relayed from outerspace to Strieber.

LOL This is just too good to be true.

If they can't even come up with an original title how can it be anything other than a live action cartoon? They took the "Day After" and added "tomorrow" Geeze.

On the official website, they have this stupid fluff section where they ask the cast and crew, "If you had a billboard and could put any message you wanted, what would it be." Director Roland Emmerich's was "No more Bush." Pretty stupid to go out of your way to alienate a large segment of your audience. I mean, I'm not naive and I know this is Hollywood, but they are usually savvy enough to at least make those statements separate from the movie.

Funny how his last movie, "The Patriot," was trashed by liberals and largely embraced by conservatives. I even remember Algore mildly knocking the film in that stupid Spike Jonze convention movie.

Just as seeing Independence Day gave me a greater appreciation for the high writing, acting, effects and production standards of Earth VS.The Flying Saucers, I'm sure this movie will give me a greater appreciation for the science of Armageddon.

A conspiracy theorist worth a grain of salt would be screaming at the top of his lungs about the stupidity of people willimg to both torture prisoners and publish pictures of themselves doing so while blaming someone 10,000 miles away, yet we accept this as a scandalous discovery by an alert and ever-vigilant press; go figure!
