Kerry faltering in ex-strongholds for Democrats

Several states once seen as "solidly" behind Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry, including Michigan and New Jersey, have turned into battlegrounds where President Bush is a serious contender.

Months ago, Michigan and New Jersey, which are heavily unionized and voted for Al Gore in 2000, were considered beyond Mr. Bush's reach. Now, despite the president's falling national approval rating for his handling of the Iraq war, pollsters say the economic recovery and perception of the president as a strong leader have turned both states in his direction.

But to hear CNN and ABC reports, all that's left for Kerry to do is pick up the keys to the White House and start picking out drapery!

"It's very hard to see us winning in November without carrying Michigan and New Jersey," said a Democratic National Committee official."

It's very hard to see you winning in November at all.

Woe is us! There's no hope for President Bush. [sob]

He's losing his conservative base!

They're abandoning him in droves!! [wailing, gnashing of teeth]

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go scrape off my Bush/Cheney bumper sticker and cover myself in ashes.

Maybe a whole bunch of "F" keys for the computers?

Zogby trumpeted that Kerry leads many of the battleground states. He'd better...they were virtually all Gore states.

"Despite all the bad news out of Iraq, President Bush is threatening to make a horse race out of New Jersey, a state everyone had put in the 'safe' column for John Kerry," said Clay Richards, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

No, not all of us. :-)

Yeah, but meanwhile the guy is afraid to actually become the nominee, for fear he won't have enough money to spend harranguing people to vote for him.

Much of the mainstream media seems to have deteriorated to the point were they are only "reporting" their own fantasies, not the news at all, good or bad.

Last night we had a young guy come to our door trying to raise funds for the DNC. My husband kept questioning him and finally got him to admit that Kerry was a loser!!

The key for a Bush win in Michigan is for all outlying precincts to report their polling results after Detroit reports.

When Jimmy Hoffa's body is found, it will be wrapped in hundreds of thousands of Republican absentee ballots that Detroit "loses" and never counts each election.

Don't Michigan and New Jersey both have a large population of Muslims? Would not American Muslims vote for Bush?

As the economy improves, fewer people will see the economy as an issue of concern. Also, I think the "I don't own an suv, my family does" flap will harm Kerry in Michigan. The GOP should really play on that. Kerry is another limousine liberal who owns nice cars but thinks the average citizen shouldn't. If I were an automobile worker I would be wondering what regulations Kerry would propose that would limit the type or number of cars produced (to help the "environment") that would eventually cost me my job.

Is anything being done about publicizing the fact that Kerry is a self-confessed war criminal. If you want to know why i'm asking, check around with people in their 30's and watch their faces. I suspect that many people do not know. They need to be presented with his words.

Nothing really counts until the debates. You wait until people get a good, close look at Kerry next to Bush. He's about the most unappealing candidate ever. And even Bush's enemies agree he's likable.

Sad as it may be, that sways more voters than anything.
