WSJ: Saddam's Files Show 'Direct' 9/11 Link (Salman Pak)
Newsmax.com & Wall Street Journal ^ | 5/27/04 | Carl Limbacher

Newly uncovered files examined by US military investigators in Baghdad show what is being described as 'a direct link' between Saddam Hussein's elite Fedayeen military unit and the terrorist attacks on America September 11, 2001.

Ahmed Hikmat Shakir, who attended a 2000 Al Qaeda summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where the 9/11 attacks were planned, is listed among the officers on three Fedayeen rosters reviewed by US probers, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

'Our government sources, who have seen the translations of the documents, say Shakir is listed with the rank of Lt. Colonel,' the paper said.

Saddam's Fedayeen has been identified in previous reports as the group that conducted 9/11 style hijack training drills on a parked Boeing 707 airliner at the south Baghdad terrorist camp Salman Pak.

In a post obtained through Saddam's Mukahbarrat intelligence service, Shakir was stationed at the Iraqi embassy in Kuala Lumpur at the time of the 9/11 planning session.

Also in attendance, 9/11 highjackers Khalid al Midhar and Nawaz al Hamzi who piloted American Airlines Filght 77 when it crashed into the Pentagon.

Ramzi al Shibh, the operational planner of the 9/11 attacks, and Tawfiz al Atash, a high ranking Osama bin Laden lieutenant and mastermind of the USS Cole boming, were also at the meeting the Journal said.

Ping.

Nailing down the reason for war.

Pres. Bush ALWAYS said the war was against those who aided, abetted, harbored.....terrorism...particularly those terrorists involved in 9/11.

Hmmmm, wasn't there some link between Terry Nichols, Operation Bojinka and Jamie Gorelick??

We will never know and if known, never told.

"Iraq has been in a proxy war against the U.S. for years and has used al-Qaeda in that war against the United States."

Works for me.

How can you drop the bomb if the media won't report on it. This makes me sick.

This is obviously impossible - Saddam was a secularist, man - everyone knows that!

Even the paper of record, the NYT, says so - so it can't be true that he would connive with NON-secularists.

Saddam was a secularist. Saddam was a secularist. Saddam was a secularist.

I agree, the Republicans have a devastating arsenal of truth they can use this summer and fall. It will make Lerry and the Dems look like the ridiculous children they are. Bush knows it is a marathon, not a sprint; he knows how to play cards. Even the silly media will come around and show what a weakling this Kerry fellow is.

Are you kidding? Pictures of Kerry having sex with a nine year old Haitian boy wouldn't impede his loyal leftist loonies at this point.

Unless he was on the plane, with a note attached, "I'm crashing this plane on behalf of Saddam"...

Even then the rats will accuse Bush of pinning the note to him.

When Shakir was arrested in Qatar on Sept. 17, 2001, he was carrying phone numbers of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers' safe houses and contacts, as well as information relating to Operation Bojinka, a plot devised by trade center bomber Ramzi Yousef that became the blueprint for the 9/11 attacks.

The Qataris released Shakir after a brief detention and he fled to Jordan, where he was re-arrested. Inexplicably, however, the CIA signed off on his release after Amnesty International complained.

But I keep hearing what a great ally Wahabbi Qatar is in the WoT.

WHEN will the Salman Pak story be told? Why has no one thought to investigate how it was that four separate groups of Arab hijackers were able to PERFECTLY execute hijackings of four large passenger jets, armed with nothing but box cutters? This took a large amount of training and practice, which surely was not done in the U.S. Last time I looked, Osama did not have a 707 parked at any of his camps in Afghanistan. I've been asking this question ever since 9/11: WHERE DID THEY GET THE TRAINING? WHERE DID THEY PRACTICE? I don't know that it had anything to do with Salman Pak, but I sure as hell would appreciate SOMEBODY investigating this sometime!

The evidence has been accumulating for over a year. The biggest problem has been the media jumping on events that haven't panned out which undermines the administration's efforts to make a case.

But the evidence is there; Bush only needs to present and summarize it at a time and place of his choosing.

Of course the leftists will still try to claim that Bush hid the evidence to score political points.
