Nashville-AP) -- President Bush has arrived in Nashville Thursday afternoon for a speech at Vanderbilt University and a fund-raiser Thursday night.

He was greeted by Governor Bredesen and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.

Leaving the airport, Bush's motorcade traveled to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

On the way, the motorcade passed about 50 protesters near the hospital.

Among the placards they carry regarding the war in Iraq are some reading "Bush lied, Americans died" and "Bring our troops home."

About two dozen uniformed police officers were evident in the area where protesters stand.

American Airlines plane surrounded after bomb threat discovered.

The president’s fighter jets escorted the plane to Nashville International airport when a bomb threat note was found on board a commercial flight.

The plane was in rout from Boston to Dallas when a flight attendant on board found the note and alerted the captain who called for help. Passengers on board the plane have been removed.

 

Officials say they do not believe this is a bomb threat that involves the president. But officials are taking every precaution.

Both Metro’s bomb squad and the FAA are still investigating.

Can I ask a dumb question? Since the president is in Nasville, why divert the plane there? Closest airport after the note was found? Granted he wasn't at the airport, but why take any chances?

If I'm not mistaken, I seem to remember this very phrase way back in the Vietnam era, but with a different president's name. It's like entering a time warp.
