Oklahoma City bomber Terry Nichols met with World Trade Center bomber Ramzi Yousef in the Philippines before he and Timothy McVeigh carried out their plot, investigative reporter Jayna Davis said Wednesday.
"Terry Nichols and Ramzi Yousef met personally in the Philippines on the island of Mindanao in the early 1990s to discuss, of all things, bombmaking," Davis told ABC Radio Network host John Batchelor.
On Wednesday, an Oklahoma jury returned a 161 count murder verdict against Nichols. He is expected to face the death penalty. But the bizarre Yousef-Nichols tie-in did not come up in the trial.
Davis said she didn't think Nichols would ever discuss his relationship with Yousef, who devised a plot known as Operation Bojinka, a kamikaze airliner hijacking plan that became the blueprint for the 9/11 attacks.
"Sources close to the defense have told me, and this comes from recorded conversations with his wife, Lana Padilla, that Terry Nichols is going to remain clammed up for the rest of his natural days on earth," Davis told Batchelor.
"He wants to protect his son Joshua from any retaliation," she added. Filipino police informant, Edwin Angeles, who first detailed meetings between Yousef and Nichols, was assassinated in 1998.
Yousef's partner in the Bojinka plot, Abdul Hakim Murad, was apprehended by Filipino police in 1994 and taken to New York to stand trial. On the morning of the OKC bombing, Murad summoned his jailers to tell them he and Yousef were connected to the crime. Later that day Murad gave the FBI a written confession.
Just months before his own June 2001 execution for the crime, Timothy McVeigh referred to both Yousef and Osama bin Laden in a letter to Fox News Channel's Rita Cosby.
"Collateral Damage? As an American news junkie; a military man; and a Gulf War veteran, where do they think I learned that? (It sure as hell wasn't Osama Bin Laden!)," he wrote in April 2001.
In the next sentence, McVeigh mentioned Yousef.
"For all else, I would refer you to my enclosed paper 'Hypocrisy,' and to Ramzi Yousef's statement to the court just prior to his sentencing. I filter all labels and insults thusly."
In the Jan. 8, 1998, court statement to which McVeigh referred, Yousef proclaimed, "Yes, I am a terrorist and proud of it as long as it is against the U.S. government," before being sentenced to 240 years in jail.

I know it's late in the thread, and it was posted quite some time ago, but here's a ping anyway.
From the prosecution's point of view: absolutely unnecessary for a conviction. They had plenty of evidence to prove he did it.
From the defense's point of view: this would not help their case one bit.

Yeah, I know you've parsed "militants who worship the Second Amendment" down to "gun owners who refuse to denounce McVeigh and Nichols". Okay, I'll bite...name some. I doubt there is a single law-abiding gun owner in this nation who supports what happened in OKC, or that you could name any. No, I believe once again, you opened your big mouth and said something extremely stupid, not realizing the slapping around you would get at the hands of those of us who do worship the Second Amendment, and the rest of the Constitution as well. We are militants, after all.
Do yourself a favor...the next time you feel the urge to post some kind of anti-RKBA drivel, don't. Unless you just like looking stupid and getting beaten up.

That is a very foolish statement, as you imply that the folks who strive to defend the 2nd Amendment are in fact militants and religious fruitcakes, which ALMOST ALL followers of the Qu'ran cult are, and ALMOST ALL defenders of the second amendment defenders ARE NOT.
And Do you denounce the guys who tortured and killed Matthew Shepard, or not? Judging from your implications of second amendment defenders, it's a fair question to ask of YOU, since your tagline would indicate that you are one of these characters that justify attacks on gays.

Then Nichols must be the most dedicated of terrorists. He's going to get the needle in Oklahoma state prison. If he actually had info of this sort wouldn't he have his lawyers beat down the door of the DoJ to tell his story in return for life w/o parole?As I said on a previous thread if he came forward and awore to these "facts" at trial there'd be a case, but he didn't and I have to conclude there's no there there.
McVeigh said his favorite book was John Ross's "Unintended Consequences". Ever see it?

Excellent analysis. I would disagree only with this line. Bin Laden himself was surprised the towers fell, but was delighted when he saw it on TV. He never expected the intensity of the fire would melt the steel supports and cause a total collapse.
I think he was talking about it in the video of him and his henchmen in a cave.

Reread the article...Nichols is protecting his son. If he sings, his family is in danger.
Why do you feel compelled to linit your repudiation to folks that think a certain part of the Constitution is of paramount importance?
