Activists Urge Congress to Repeal Military's 'Gay Ban' (CNSNews.com) - A group that lobbies against the ban on homosexuals in the military says this week's campaign to change minds in Washington was a success.

More than 60 veterans and activists from 22 states "stormed" Capitol Hill on Tuesday, urging lawmakers to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network said in a press release.

The group called its second annual lobby day "the largest organized effort" relating to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" since the military adopted the policy in 1993, at the behest of President Bill Clinton.

In all, twenty-two state delegations met with over ninety Congressional offices, Republican and Democratic, from both the House and Senate, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network said. "Last year, fourteen state delegations met with fifty congressional offices.

"There is overwhelming support to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,'" said C. Dixon Osburn, SLDN's executive director, pointing to various public opinion polls.

He said the policy "hurts military readiness, depriving our country of the talents and skills of patriotic Americans."

Rep. Marty Meehan (D-Mass.), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, agreed: "The momentum to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' is growing and the days of anti-gay discrimination in our armed forces are limited," Meehan said in a press release put out by SLDN.

When I went in the Marine Corps, homosexuality was prohibited; starting with Clinton, it was optional. I'm glad I retired before it was required!

LOL! Ever get the feeling the Dummycrats' only use for the military is social experimentation? They'd disband it altogether if it didn't give them a forum to whine about sexual and gender inequality.

I agree they need to gut Don't Ask Don't Tell and get back to the way things were before 93. Besides, just how many artsy types do the Marines need?

Down through the ages, homosexuality within military organizations has been used variously for breaking up military discipline, integrating an intense loyalty in a unit, a cause of hazing the unfortunate individual who made the mistake of exhibiting borderline behavior, and celebrated as a "great liberation".

The Democrats, very few of whom have served on active duty, tend to celebrate overt homosexuality as some kind of liberation, but with the intention of breaking up the effectiveness of military discipline. Same reason they tried to force the Boy Scouts to accept openly gay Scoutmasters. It's all about extending the agenda.

I suspect we did that already at Abu Ghraib. Most of the perpetrators appear to have been graduates of clinton U, co-ed basic training, or Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Boy, one would think that the reason for the military is to defend, kill, and break things.

I guess this can't be true without a little social engineering to fortify this reason./s

** **** ***

This LIAR does not mention that the overwhelming MAJORITY wants to kick homosexuals out by relpealing don't ask don't tell.

IOW this is a propaganda ploy to shape the default as homsexuals are allowed to participate BUT FOR the don't ask don't telll. They are wrong, homosexuality is prohibited as the don't ask don't tell. If the policy is ended, then it DEFAULTS BACK TO ASK AND EXPELL HOMOSEXUALS.

Why don't reporters ask this? Why do they cover it up? Are they hiding they personal sex lives and interest in this non-issue.

After "Abu Grab-u", it's high past time to ask and tell about perverts in the army.

I always thought that the reason to bar gays from the military was to keep sexuality out of the units. When I see the way that women in the units have sexualized operations (particularly Abu Ghraib, but also the number of pregnancies on ships), I think that argument is long gone.
If we can mix heterosexual men and women, why not homosexuals?

The ban should be repealed. If we allow gay marriage, I see no reason to be ashamed of the sex orientation of soldiers in uniform. Its not going to affect morale and the discipline of the service. I've always thought we either ban homosexual behavior in the military outright or allow gays to serve openly but this "don't ask, don't tell" policy is unworthy of America as it forces our military to live a lie. Eventually, gays are going to get their way - its just a question of time before this stupid policy goes the way of the dodo.
