Car Bomb Explodes in Center of Baghdad
Cope [Spanish radio station] ^ | May 31, 2004 | Staff

Posted on 05/31/2004 4:18:06 AM PDT by livius

A car bomb exploded this morning in the center of Baghdad, near the so-called “Green Zone” where the offices of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) are located. A think column of smoke is risking over the site of the explosion where, according to witnesses, at least two people died and several were injured in this new attack, occurring 30 days before the transfer of power. The explosion occurred in a street named Kindi, in the Al Hariziya neighborhood, a busy area near the former residence of Saddam Hussein. In addition, it was learned today that four snipers assassinated the leader of the main Sunni Islamic party, Kahtan Al-Rubaie, last night as he was driving home in the city of Mahmudiya. The Iraqi Islamic Party is one of the majority parties of Iraq. Its leader, Mohsen Abdul Hameed, is an influential member of the Iraqi transitional council.

They just can't quit killing each other. A trailer on this station also says that the transitional government is delaying its appointment of a president for another 24 hours. I would imagine this is because of the assassination of Al-Rubaie.

Yeah, I heard that sound this morning and it sounded like it was coming from the direction of CPA.

I wish those idiots would just knock it off.

The photo looked pretty tame, as if the two killed may have been in the car at the time...

Every time I hear of a bomb in Baghdad, I thank God for George Bush - if Al Gore were President, those bombs would be going off in New York City.

LOL! Yes, that's exactly how I think most of us Freepers feel about it. Here they have a chance to actually have a country and do something with their lives, and they're busy doing everything possible to mess it up for themselves.

They're getting a lot of encouragement to fight like tigers from our Democrats, though.

That's true. They still haven't dared to try it here (knock wood). And who knows, they may even decide that car bombs are counter-productive in their own regions, although I think they've gotten sort of addicted to the use of explosives as a problem-solving device.

They can't wait 'till they put Saddam II in charge and line up to be shredded. When that happens, guess who's fault it will be?

Actually, most of them want peace. They're digging the whole freedom and capitalism thing. They hate the bombings as much as we do.

Iran is mixed up in this...they do NOT want a peaceful and democratic Iraq. It doesn't fit in with their extremist Islamic agenda and they're stirring up a lot of trouble here.

I think that if the Dems and the media had stayed united behind Bush, this whole thing would be over now and Iraq would be well on the way to peace and stability.

Sure, there would have been sparodic attempts and attacks. But the perception of the radicals that there is support for them among one of America's main political parties has emboldened them enormously.

I think that's true. Note that a leader of the Sunni Party was assassinated last night.

ROFL! Yeah.

They welcomed me "home" my first night back (Friday) with three mortar hits not too far the DFAC while we were having dinner. Close enough to shake it pretty good.

I said "Ahhhh....home, sweet home."

Yeah, but Bush would also have higher approval ratings and Kerry would be behind by 30 percent minimum.

You have to get your priorities straight. The left (and their lackeys in the media) has different priorities than a strong America.

To understand the left you need to think back to the biggest know-it-all you have ever known in your life, multiply by 100, remove all social graces, and remove all logic and facts. Make the heart twice a big so they can care more, and remove the connection to the brain so that they care about things that are harmful. Install SelfRighteous Version 5.0 and you are getting close.

I'd like to think so, but if everything were the same, I would still appreciate it if the Dems and Zinni would respect what the troops are trying to do.

Sometimes I think the PFC maning a .50 on an APC has more sense than a sidlined Shinseki or Zinni. Ask him if he thinks the war is being fought the wrong way. If most of them say yes, then we should shake up this tree and start again.

My bet is that the average patriotic APC gunner is locked, loaded, and ready to tear up the nearest terrorist so that the peaceful Iraqi people can get back to their lives.

I'm not interested in the APC gunner who has a black 'A' tatooed on his forearm; I'm interested in the guy from West Virginia who enlisted to save his country.

Great description of a leftist, especially this:

think back to the biggest know-it-all you have ever known in your life, multiply by 100...

One of their most nauseating features is their self-righteous certainty, which is, as you point out, untouched by fact and logic.
