Socialism is about to end in America. Can the boomers deal with it? They've asked us to deal with so much for them -- just for them -- already...

I wish but I think we are stuck with more and more "Feel Good" and "give me" baby boomer socialist programs from both parties until Gen-x and Y takes over power from them which I don't think will happen until 2016 or 2020.

Unfortunately, I'm horrible with numbers and couldn't crunch them into a solution if I tried my hardest. There has got to be a reasonable solution to the current Social Security situation, though.

I heard a solution, once, that made sense to me:

Cut Social Security now. However do it in a reasonable manner. Allow the people, the retirees, that are feeding off of it now to continue to feed until they die. Then have a cutoff age, say 59 1/2, for everyone else. If you are 59 1/2 before this date, good for you, you get social security, if not... save up you poor s.o.b. I'm getting my money, you'll get yours, and we all stop paying the government more than they need to provide the common defense. The end.

No sarcasm involved, in case anyone was trying to read it that way.

I really think most people underestimate when the 'next generation' will take political power. At the rate we've seen medicine advancing lately, the average 50-something male will very likely live 90-110 years, NOT 80 something that is commonly expected right now. The boomers will be in power MUCH longer than most people think...and this means social insecurity isn't going anywhere. I honestly envy you boomers...You will live through the peak years of socialism in America...collecting all of the benefits before the house of cards collapses. Your grandchildren will be the ones picking up the pieces, and being forced to live through the 2nd great depression. I hope you can do SOMETHING now to make life easier for them...save a small amount of tangible assets (gold/silver, etc) that can't be devalued through the coming devalutation (inflation) of paper money.
