INTERVIEW: Stephen Baldwin
pbs "newsweekly" ^ | May 7, 2004 | stephen baldwin

"How can somebody like myself bang my drum, so to speak, and create more of an awareness of the importance of not relying on Hollywood? Don't take your Christian idea to Hollywood. That's like going, "Hey Jesus, I've got this idea, let me go ask the devil to help me create it." You know what the devil's going to do? The devil's going to go, "Sure, buddy, come on in. Have a cocktail. Want a cigar?" He's going to make you nice and comfortable, and he's going to make you sign a contract that the end result won't be what your initial intention was, I assure you."

"It really makes me sad that Grand Theft Auto, the video game, is, if not the number one video game in the country, it's in the top five. It's made so much money. This game is being played by five, six, seven, right up until 11 years old. In the game, you can solicit a prostitute, have sex with her, and beat her to death with a baseball bat."

I wonder what he would think if people had their own holodecks in their bedrooms.

Methinks he is not popular with the Libertarian (i.e. Liberal) crowd.

I think my mom saw him in a Christian movie recently, I chalked it up to being hard up for cash, guess not.

Thanks for the article; who's his agent and I wonder if he's still working in Hollywood? I loved his old show THE YOUNG RIDERS back in the day, even wrote a "spec" tv script of it that the producer on that show was too atheist to consider. God bless and keep you S.B.

Thanks for the article. I did enjoy it.

It's true that in recent Christian-produced movies, there are a lot of better-known actors who may or may not be converts e.g Margot Kidder, Judd Nelson, Corbin Bernsen, Eric Roberts. Stephen Baldwin seems to be the real deal though, and that's very surprising considering his liberal family background.

His latest Christian apocalyptic thriller is out this month. It's called Six: The Mark Unleashed. Looks interesting. Eric Roberts is in it too.

And the guy said, "What's the difference between that and somebody putting a Bible verse in a pornographic magazine?" I said, "The difference is, the editor or the owner obviously isn't a Christian, is he? That's the difference.

How about we don't make it "pornographic" but just show enough flesh to be cool and edgy.

I loved YR, too. My husband asked me about Stephen several weeks ago. I told him that I thought he was the only decent Baldwin. He laughed and asked me why. I said I had read an article about some volunteer work he did after 9/11, and I just had that impression. Then my husband told me about SB being a Christian. Made my day. : )

(Young Riders may be coming out on DVD.....)

It's great to see the enthusiasm of a new Christian. Prayers for Baldwin.

I saw him on MSNBS and have to say I think he really gets it. I hope that one day his brother Alec understands the truth. Can you imagine Alec Baldwin standing up supporting God and our troops? Hollywood would rally and say Alec who? Most Americans would say thank God he has seen the truth if he makes another movie I will go see it.
Until then he can stay washed up.

It only proves my point.

People are trying to make Jesus cool.

Jesus isn't cool.

He is the Holy Son of God. This makes Him look common, makes Him look like all the fleshly trappings of skateboarding, rock music, and whatever, earrings??!!!??

That all of that is OK??

No, it is not.
