President Bush will award Pope John Paul the Presidential Medal of Freedom Friday, the highest U.S. civilian award, a U.S. official said Thursday.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the pontiff was being honored for "years of fighting for freedom and for his important moral voice."

"Graham received his in 1983."

Thanks for the info...

However, it wasn't received from President Bush, AND it wasn't given to him under curious circumstances five months before an upcoming election.

Jesus forgive us and our nation for our crimes against the unborn.

And punish the pedophile priests and the Catholic Church heirarchy that swept their crimes under the pews - that includes the Pope who obviously had to be complicit in this perversion.

Anyone who thinks the Pope's "abandoning" her because he declines to define his mission as affirming her pre-existing values rather than calling her to conversion and repentance has radically misunderstood the mission of the Church, not to mention the mission of Jesus Christ. I don't want to be rude, but "It's All About Me" strikes me as a pretty shabby sort of religion for anyone to choose.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is America's highest civilian honor, the equivalent of the military Medal of Honor in times of war.

This is a loaded deck. What extraordinary contribution has Karol Wojtyla made to protect, defend or improve the living conditions of America during his pontificate that could justify his receiving an award intended for extraordinary American contributions!!!

"It's All About Me" has been the hallmark of this celebrity pontificate that turned its back on sex in the church, and instead turned to poetry, musical CD's and book writing, while His Church lays in ruins at Wojtyla's feet!!!

I find it interesting how so many could adore the man (Pope) yet discount what he says (I respect him a great deal).
Is this a conscious decision to prioritize your politics over your religion, or something else?

Some have said the Pope always is against war....I'd like to see a quote about him being against the Afghan war then. That would prove that point.
Never mind, chew on this...

"Vatican Says Use of Force by U.S. Can Be Justified "

"ASTANA, Kazakhstan, Sept. 24 -- The Vatican's senior spokesman said today that John Paul II understands the United States might need to use force against terrorists as a last resort to protect its people from further harm."

http://www.homestead.com/prosites-kazakhembus/Visit_of_Pope_John_Paul.html

I guess so much for the belief 'the Pope has to be against war', huh?

... a certified nut...
Whenever an opinion, or a reply is posted to you Sinkspurt which in your infinite wisdom you don't agree, you resort to petty insult.
That’s true, he does resort to insults at times, but of course here he is right. You are a nut.

To claim, suggest, or even to repeat that a tiara that was first used in the 8th century is somehow necessary to the papacy would imply that the papacy didn’t exist until the 8th century. Such a claim really makes one a Protestant. Yet, you deny being a Protestant, despite being one. You therefore deny reality, which is the definition of being a nut.

Well, for one (at that's all that's required in this case), he was instrumental in brining down the Soviet Union...an event that made this country immesurably safer.

Then your wife isn't that much of a devout Catholic after all, if she's able to put her political views ahead of her faith.

Presumptuous of you; what you don't seem to see - or maybe I didn't make it clear - is that she is livid about Il Papa putting HIS political views ahead of his faith.

He should really (in my humble, Protestant opinion) kinda just stick to his gig.

This sounds like a Hollywood "life achievement" award:
'hurry up and give it to 'em while there's still 'breath in the body''.

My point is that this award should be for AMERICANS and no one else. That's my point.
