Rebel flags may cost pair diplomas

GRAND BLANC - Bringing flags bearing the Confederate insignia to school could cost two Grand Blanc High School seniors their diplomas.

School administrators met Thursday to determine the fates of the two students and a third who was involved in an altercation sparked by the flags. School officials wouldn't announce the outcome of the meeting.

The Confederate flag has sparked a heated debate at the school about whether it's simply a symbol of the South or one of racial discrimination and slavery.

The two students who brought the flags to school Wednesday said there's nothing racist about the Confederate flag. They said it represents Southern pride, among other things, although one of the students said he wanted to apologize to peers who were offended.

Reading this post, I am reminded of a question my son (at the time he was 12) asked me as we toured the Gettysburg Battlefield:

"Dad, who were the good guys and who were the bad guys here?"

Hey, I refer to the professional leftwingers in this country as the AlQaida Ground Support Team, but didn't Robert E. Lee lose his right to vote in Virginia and US elections on account of his, uh, err, leading the rebel army?!

Maybe your accounting of history is different than mine, but he didn't get reinstated as a voter or someone entitled to run for public office, right?

Were there at least a couple of witnesses to this?

I'm just guessing he may have had a Constitutional disability or something. Had some property confiscated as well ~ US government finally paid his son (the "blood" thing in the Constitution).

Instead of withholding their diplomas, just give them a good paddling.

Come on, let's not temporize with false moderation.

They need to be stripped, flogged, hanged, and set on fire. They need to understand, with the kind of sunburst illumination that comes from seeing a rope, that white trash like them really are the bottom of the social pecking order.

Step up and say it; go ahead. Be the man you are, and tell us how you really feel.

the CURRENT GA flag AND the "1956-pattern" GA flag were BOTH flown during the WBTS by GA state troops.

William Porcher Miles designed BOTH flags in 1861 (FEB or MAR). there is a wartime picture of BOTH on stands behind a CSA LTC!

the CURRENT FLAG is a CONFEDERATE BATTLEFLAG!

i'll remind everyone here that the CSA flag was the flag that the German freedom-fighters waved during the period when the Berlin wall came DOWN!

the BATTLEFLAG is the emblem of LIBERTY & is recognised all over the world as such.

Hey, I don't like the DU folks anymore than you do. On the other hand the deal was my state (Indiana) would take down the massive display of Confederate battle flags in the State House and return them to the Souvrn' states to which they'd originally belonged and then everything would be OK again.

So, the display (of hundreds of flags as I recall it) was removed in the 1960s. They had to be sent to ALL 14 states that'd surrendered to Indiana units ~ doubt any other Union command was as successful against Confederates ~ and almost immediately you had a bunch of un-reconstructed types flying the battle flag again.

You guys broke the deal. It's time to give those flags back, or to quit thinking of them as having any legitimacy as an element of political discourse in this country.

So, you can't see, it's not just a question of PC but one of honor. Since Souvrn' people have demonstrated they have no honor (by not honoring the deal brokered in the 1960s), there's really no reason for me to be polite about it. (BTW, that applies to Souvrn' types living in the Souf' and Souvrn' types living in the North!)
