Thanks for this link and another incredible Flip Flop by Comrade al Querry, this time about the invasion of Grenada:

John Kerry in the Cape Codder -1984 How do we know Kerry was wrong? Here’s an excerpt from the new book John F. Kerry: The Complete Biography by the Boston Globe Reporters Who Know Him Best: “Twenty years later in his campaign for president, Kerry would rewrite history by listing Grenada among the U.S. military incursions he had supported. ‘I was dismissive of the majesty of the invasion of Grenada,’ Kerry says now. ‘But I basically was supportive. I never publicly opposed it.’”

Any dates, purpose or target audience information available? Was this (A) form letter boilerplate sent out from his office to his constituents, (B) campaign literature or is it a (C) document that still might be available through government sources today?

Possibly adam_az knows more; I know nothing other than the contents of the document, which I saw for the first time today. It is obvious from its context (including the reference to President Reagan) that this paper was produced during Kerry's first Senate campaign, in 1984. Anything else would be conjecture on my part, but I'd guess it was a campaign press release.

It would also be interesting to note here just exactly what Kerry's intentions were as to where all this money saved would be then spent. I can guess, but the hard cold facts would be even better.

Well, gosh, I'd assume Kerry had a big tax cut in mind with all the billions he was proposing saving.

The credit should go to adam_az, who first posted it on another thread. The resourcefulness of FReepers never ceases to amaze.

There's not a single word on this document that comes as a surprise, but seeing it on Kerry's letterhead makes it so much more powerful.

LOL!

But remember one thing, Kerry is French, so we would be in full surrender mode at the first spitball attack...

You wound me to the quick. The color is (more or less) the team color of my beloved alma mater. But perhaps I should make it a little darker... or darker still... or even darker. Better?

The Reagan administration has no rational plan for our military. Instead it acts on misinformed assumptions about strength of the Soviet military and a presumed "window of vulnerability", which we now know not to exist. -- John Kerry.

Hmmm, let's see what Ronald Reagan said about people like Kerry:

"A Hippie is someone who walks like Tarzan, looks like Jane and smells like Cheetah."

Yhanks for the thread!

And for more on how Kerry really felt about Pres. Reagan, click here. From the link:

In 1984 campaign literature: “We are continuing a defense buildup that is consuming our resources with weapons systems that we don’t need and can’t use.

“The Reagan Administration has no rational plan for our military. Instead, it acts on misinformed assumptions about the strength of the Soviet military and a presumed ‘window of vulnerability,’ which we now know not to exist.

“And Congress, rather than having the moral courage to challenge the Reagan Administration, has given Ronald Reagan almost every military request he has made, no matter how wasteful, no matter how useless, no matter how dangerous.

“The biggest defense buildup since World War II has not given us a better defense. Americans feel more threatened by the prospect of war, not less so. And our national priorities become more and more distorted as the share of our country’s resources devoted to human needs diminishes.”

Also from the above link:

Kerry was also the pivotal figure in the infamous Iran-Contra hearings that led up to the crisis in the Reagan administration. He spent the spring of 1986 conducting an unauthorized investigation into reports that the Reagan administration was illegally providing aid to the rebel Nicaraguan Contra armies, which were attempting to overthrow the left-wing government of that Central American nation.
