Nancy Reagan: "My family and I would like the world to know that President Ronald Reagan has passed away after 10 years of Alzheimer's disease at 93 years of age. We appreciate everyone's prayers."
Michael Reagan: I pray that as America reflects on the passing of my Dad, they will remember a man of integrity, conviction and good humor that changed America and the world for the better. He would modestly say the credit goes to others, but I believe the credit is his. What I will remember is a man that changed my life. He was always there for me when I needed him. He had a way of putting everything into perspective, and I believe that his determination and perseverance came from his relationship with the Lord. He played an important role in pointing me to God.
President George W. Bush: "He always told us that for America the best is yet to come. ... We comfort ourselves by telling ourselves that the same is true for him. ... We know a shining city is waiting for him."
Former President George H.W. Bush: "The most I learned from him was his adherence to principle and to fight for them. ... He used the term 'evil empire' and all his critics were ringing their hands, saying he doesn't know how to conduct foreign affairs ... sure enough peace happened on his watch."
Former President Gerald Ford: "Betty and I are deeply saddened by the passing of our longtime friend, President Reagan. Ronald Reagan was an excellent leader of our nation during challenging times at home and abroad. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Nancy and his family."
Former President Bill Clinton: "Hillary and I will always remember President Ronald Reagan for the way he personified the indomitable optimism of the American people, and for keeping America at the forefront of the fight for freedom for people everywhere. It is fitting that a piece of the Berlin Wall adorns the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington."

Reagan's desire was to make our nation its best. To do that you have to have good principles and stick with them.
What a contrast in president's we've had in the last fifty years.
Actor Danny Glover: "We all know Reagan's legacy, from the Iran-Contra affair to the funding of the Nicaraguan military in which over 200,000 people died. The groundwork for the move steadily to the right happened with the Reagan administration. People want to elevate him to some mythic level; they have their own reason for doing that."
Maybe I missed it, but has Jimmy Carter released a statement?
None that I've seen or been able to find.
I don't believe he has. Jimmah's still a bitter, little man.
I stand corrected - link just posted on FR

CNN showed Carter speaking of Reagan this morning. (I think at church? Not sure) He conceded Reagan deserved the moniker "The Great Communicator" and that he had principles (albeit "simple" ones).
Ah, I see you found it.
Thank God.
On a live C-SPAN broadcast yesterday, Clintonista Donna Brazille began with a touching story that the man she'd campaigned against so bitterly in 1980 and 1984 actually - in a 1986 meeting - turned out to be a very nice guy.
Then she ruined it all by turning on the full-burner righteous indignation and ending with "I hope his policies go to the grave with him." (paraphrased)
Real Jeckyll and Hyde stuff.
I wonder if AlGore has made a statement.
After his recent outbursts, it would be kind of awkward to hear him say a respectful word. It seems to me that once you've crossed that line into the "bomb thrower" category, you sort of rule yourself out of making the low-key, diplomatic statements that these sorts of things require.
Indeed, this is why President Reagan's death is so sad.. His passing ends an era of greatness that I pray we never lose, but am afraid we are on the threshhold of it...it will be our choosing.
I always thought Carter was a phoney.
In a different universe where a Democrat may have a slight amount of truth in them, Carter would say:
"America, and indeed the whole world, was jackpot lucky that Ronald Reagan kicked my peanut ass in the 1979 election."
In this presidential election year, the liberal establishment has racheted up the rhetoric to levels of incivility not seen before. With the exception of Fox, the other main 24-7 cable news outlets and their liberal network cohorts have repeated the leftwing mantra to adnauseam.
Ronald Reagan never engaged in vitriolic rhetoric or classless acts. Reagan tried to always rise above the nasty aspects of partisan politics. I think PresBush43 is trying to emulate Reagan's behavior in this regard. This time around, however, I don't know if it will help in getting him reelected. The liberal Democrats are bound and determined to do whatever it takes to defeat Bush. Period. This includes all manner of lies, distortions and fabrications.
As the election draws closer, its critical for the Bush campaign to make every effort in derailing the campaign of John Kerry.
"As the election draws closer, its critical for the Bush campaign to make every effort in derailing the campaign of John Kerry."
John Kerry doesn't need derailing -- he's staggering from side to side all over the tracks.
