To fair-minded observers of recent developments in Iraq, it is becoming apparent that the United States, and therefore President Bush, is on the verge of a victory of Biblical proportions. The Tide of Victory is running strongly, and irreversibly, in the direction of a democratic, prosperous Iraq soon to rejoin the world community. The Presidents vision of 18 months ago of turning the cycle of Mid-East violence and terror by remaking Iraq is within grasp. The seeds of democracy and prosperity have been planted in Iraq and will, in fits and starts, and with a lot of help from the US and others, continue to blossom.
Bush, hammered relentlessly by rival Politicians and their media surrogates, is on the verge of pulling off one of the most dramatic foreign policy moves in the Nations history. The implications of success in Iraq are colossal as the misunderestimated Bush delivers a Sadaam free, democratic Iraq in the heart of Islamic Fundamental geography.
Oddly, almost no discussion is heard in the US Media about the implications of success. The Media seems unable to break out of the Tet Offensive reporting mode of two months back. Or the more recent and on-going Al Ghraib mode. But the evidence grows daily that the real story is of success, not failure.
Iraq is pumping oil and earning over $65 million per day, attacks on Iraqi civil authorities are down, the Iraq dinar is up, 22 of 26 Ministries are run by Iraqis, and 40 municipal elections have been peacefully and democratically held, with moderates winning every one of the free elections. Moderate Clerics have supported and encouraged peaceful progress and recent statements by the new Governing Council just re-enforce the obvious: US Troops are a constructive, welcome and necessary part of the rebuilding process. The UN is on the verge of endorsing the immense progress.
But, lost in the continuing defeatist and Abu Ghraib Liberal Media spin is perhaps the most significant fact, a development held heretical by Big Liberal Media, a development that undermines the entire mistaken position of the Left, to wit: al Qaeda is losing big time in Iraq.
Contrary to the Liberal assertion that Iraq is a US quagmire, it is actually developing as the graveyard of much of al Qaedas resources, people and global momentum. Intentionally or not, the US has drawn al Qaeda into a killing zone, and Iraq has become a must win confrontation for al Qaeda. If al Qaeda is unable to defeat the US in Iraq, is unable to stop Iraq from developing a secular free society, the implication for al Qaeda is catastrophic, on a level with their rout in Afghanistan.
Assassination, car bombing, mortaring, and massed assault all have failed to derail either the US or the Iraqi drive toward a free Iraq. The formula first used in Fallujah has now extended throughout the country. Growing civil Iraqi authority, support by moderate Clerics and the steely resolve of US Forces, particularly the US Marines, is proving an unstoppable team.
Performance of the US Combat Forces, especially the Marines, has been nothing less than spectacular. Punditry before the War held that urban combat would be doom. But the Military Leaders of the US are smart and US Forces trained hard for such a contingency. It is now obvious to anyone willing to look that not only are the Marines prepared for Urban Combat, they win decisively every time they are challenged. Win in Urban Combat, in a Moslem City. Let the implications of that demonstrated capability resonate in your thinking. The implications for anyone watching are huge. Al Qaeda has been unable to field ANY force that has had ANY success against US Forces, even in an Islamic urban setting. Al Qaeda has been unable to mobilize ANY significant Iraqi civilian support, and in fact now has legitimate Iraqi authority, both civil and religious, arrayed against it.
The strategic implications resonate throughout the Middle East, but perhaps no place stronger than in Iran, which, having backed Muqtada Al Sadr, is also losing big, by proxy. Iraqi Cleric Al Sistani has clearly come down on the side of a moderate Iraq, and as the evidence continues to build that this approach is delivering a peaceful prosperous Iraq, the Iraqi transformation represents the greatest threat to the Mullahs of Iran since their hijacking of that suffering country. The Iran Mullahs are the next to go down, as their people look to Iraq as an example of prosperity and freedom, and as the Presidents strategy continues to roll on.
Meanwhile, continued al Qaeda attacks in Moslem countries has galvanized OPEC and aligned the interests of the countries like Saudi Arabia with the interests of the US unlike anything that could have been achieved by diplomacy, or by asking the French for permission.
The USA, and President Bush, is pulling off this trifecta: growing democracy in Iraq, growing UN support, and defeat of al Qaeda in an important battle. As Iraq prospers, the World sees demonstrable proof that American willpower, resolve, military strength and diplomacy are once again defending and leading the free people of the World forward. Its not a message that some in Europe will want to hear, it is not a message the New York Times will want to tell, but it is the fact.
Success in Iraq does not mean the end of the War on Terror or the defeat of al Qaeda. No. The terrorists will morph again, attack anew. Perhaps even in the USA. But success in Iraq does represent the end of the first part of the war on terror, and it represents the important planting of a prosperous, democratic seed in the ultimate source of the problem: the Islamic Middle East. Credit the people of the US, and the spine of George Bush for seeing it this far.
This is correct, has huge significance and whole fully under reported...
bump to you
BTT. My local liberal rag is starting to report details on the government handover on the front page and I'm watching the Seattle libs grind their molars to a powder. Sweeeeet.
Bumpety bump!
Terrific article. Can you post a link to the "PA NewsPac" source, or post the URL? Tx.
Right on!!
Yup. When those idiots in Al Queda decided to fight in an Islamic urban setting, they were lured into a trap from which they will never escape.
They would've had a better chance of success if they based their operations out of private Liberal Democrat homes in Cambridge, MA, Manhattan's Upper West Side, and Malibu, where they would at least have protections from sympathetic America haters.
The four sweetest words in the English language when dealing with libs: "I told you so".
All part of the strategery. LOL!
Can the media whores keep this secret until NOV? I don't think so!
dude- you are so right. Love it- check in but dont check out. LOL
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
Without OPEC, Al Queda is left with nothing but the opium trade for their financial support. If you are after global dominance, what would you rather have: The backing of Big Oil or Big Opium?
A free and prosperous Iraq as a US ally is a stake in the heart of terrorism.
Because they can't bring themselves to contemplate the unthinkable. Just listen for the sound of exploding liberal heads. That's all we'll hear from the MSM about American success in Iraq.
I think the enormous attention that the media gave to Abu Ghraib was a telltale sign that they are beginning to subliminally recognize that this thing in Iraq might work after all, and hyping the prison scandal was the last big offensive in their anti war attack. I've noticed in barroom conversations that a lot of middle-of-the-road people were angered at the way the media played up Abu Ghraib. On a related topic, it was funny that even as General Zinny - the media's latest favorite Iraq nay-sayer -was saying Bush had no plan, THE PLAN WAS MOVING FORWARD AND IRAQIS WERE ASSUMING MORE AND MORE CONTROL. Meanwhile, Kerry is desperately trying to formulate HIS plan, which will be hopelessly out of date by the time of the election; anything Kerry might propose is being hopelessly outpaced by positive developments in Iraq.
I did a Google on "PA NewsPac"... nothing. What is "PA NewsPac"?
Condi Rice was VERY upbeat yesterday (interviewed on Fox while attending D-Day memorial events in France.) There will be more trouble in Iraq and more deaths, but I think the tide has turned.
I'd like to pass this article on to other discussion groups. What's the actual link?
I'm with you. This may be a vanity posing as an 'article.'
If I'm asked to drink something, I'd prefer in advance to know if it's intellectual bathwater.
