Some screen captures are above... for those of you with DirecTV, the NASA TV channel is on channel 376. (universal channels, from what I understand...)

So rare, in fact, that no living person has ever observed it before, since the last transit of Venus happened over 120 years ago, in 1882.

I remember President Reagan's thoughful first-hand reports on the last transit. Very moving. ;O)

Trying to figure out what the streaks are on the images. They appear as though the optics are experiencing tracking problems, however there are not that many sunspots on the surface of the sun to cause that, plus the image of Venus is not streaked or showing trails. Maybe somthing over or on the solar filters is the cause.

Here is the sun from space, picture taken by a satellite, without the interference of an atmosphere, etc. The ultraviolet (x-ray) is visible...

Are you sure this isn't just an elaborate setup on some movie set, designed to tweak the flat-earthers?

Heh heh heh.

Very nice. Thanks for the post.

I would strongly suggest that people use a pinhole viewer to look at the sun.

Stare at the sun long enough and the last thing you will see is a host over the sun.

Can't believe NASA pulled live coverage. All I can find right now are webcams that are covering it. Like this black and white one from the Netherlands. The image is updated every 30 seconds (you have to keep hitting the 'refresh' button). Here's another page that has a list of links. But so far I've had no luck finding a server offering a true, real-time, quality, color image that isn't swamped by users. If anyone finds one, let us know!

Just got in from seeing this. We took lots of pictures from the Pier at Tybee Island Georgia. I will post what I took when I wake up more. It was truly beautiful!

Hawaiians should have particular interest, as Captain Cook's voyage had to do with traveling to a distant point on the globe such that the passing of Venus could be observed from two distant points, necessary to enable certain celestial calculations, including the distance between the earth and sun.
