On June 8, 2004 we will have the opportunity to experience a very rare celestial phenomenon. So rare, in fact, that no living person has ever observed it before, since the last transit of Venus happened over 120 years ago, in 1882. We will get another chance again, however, in 2012.

Some screen captures are above... for those of you with DirecTV, the NASA TV channel is on channel 376. (universal channels, from what I understand...)

Trying to figure out what the streaks are on the images. They appear as though the optics are experiencing tracking problems, however there are not that many sunspots on the surface of the sun to cause that, plus the image of Venus is not streaked or showing trails. Maybe somthing over or on the solar filters is the cause.

Here is the sun from space, picture taken by a satellite, without the interference of an atmosphere, etc. The ultraviolet (x-ray) is visible...

For some reason, I am no longer excited about the appearance of Venus. I wonder why? LOL! This is going to be one hell of a summer, I think.

Looks like they're done for now. Thought they said we could watch the transit until they come back in 5 hours.

I noticed that, too. The pic in post #16 is the clearest.. you can see a sun spot(?), but those little tadpoles are mostly gone.

Are you sure this isn't just an elaborate setup on some movie set, designed to tweak the flat-earthers?
Heh heh heh.
Very nice. Thanks for the post.
